Pierre Engvall getting penalized for tripping Rasmus Sandin which led to Alex Ovechkin’s 895th career goal is a reminder that it will always be about the Leafs

Didn't that also happen last season too? Teams sandbagging to play the Leafs? Maybe Ottawa will do the same.Florida trying to get Toronto for R1NOT playing for the Florida Panthers today:

The leafs and bruins were locked in as a matchup for weeks before the end of last season.Didn't that also happen last season too? Teams sandbagging to play the Leafs? Maybe Ottawa will do the same.
Too mesmerized to call the penaltyQuinton Byfield scores a REMARKABLE goal with one arm free, opening the scoring for the Kings!#GoKingsGo pic.twitter.com/jaRDXDdVOt

I think Byfield might genuinely be the most underlooked player in the league. 6'5", 225 lbs. One of the fastest skaters. Successfully transitioned to centre full time this season so can play anywhere. Kills penalties. Has handled checking line roles at times even on a team with friggin' Anze Kopitar and Phillip Danault on it. Offensively his numbers don't pop off the page but he's capable of doing things like that or having 4-assist nights. Eventually that consistently is going to come offensively too and he'll be doing all that while scoring a point per game.
Bonus points for being a left-shooting Canadian too. Wouldn't be surprised if that gives him the inside track on Olympic/best-on-best teams. Maybe not next year but that my money's on him being there after that.
Some rules were meant to be broken. Also, that goal shouldn't have counted. He was clearly grabbing the stick of the defender with his open hand. 2-minute penalty for holding-the-stick before the puck goes in.![]()
Demidov was granted his release and is about to join Montreal. If his game translates he's an impact player. Big addition for their playoff push
So, the Habs added the top defenceman prospect (Hutson), the top forward prospect (Demidov), and one of the top goaltending prospects (Fowler) within one season.

And they're the youngest team in the league (or close).
And they're probably going to make the playoffs a year early.
