He was fine last year. Nothing overly special but he was solid. I wonder if this is a "comfort" thing where last year he was just the depth guy whereas this year he feels like he can try and do more stuff and he's just been bad and now has no confidence

It's not all him though - whole team has been guilty of bad pinches, careless puck giveaways, not being able to get out of their own end. Some of this stuff was going on last year but was papered over by great goaltending, but the complete breakdowns and breakaways seem to be a new addition to the repertoire.

Believe me the best thing would be to blow it. I wanna see this team win as much as the rest but not hard to see that it’s flawed and I feel we’ll be worse off the longer we wait.

Reality is this team, with a pretty favourable schedule to start the season, is pretty much average to below average in almost every underlying category except for SH%. Their PK is average and the PP has been bad. Unless something changes, this team has played like an average-to-below average team that has had unsustainable shooting luck so far. Once that dries up, without improved play beneath the hood, it’s gonna be a long season.
