Lightning @ Leafs - Dec. 8th, 7:30pm - Prime

There are plenty of small players that are very good. The point is in order to find his true ceiling you have to put him in a position to succeed. Guess what, Berube did for a bit. He got a legit shot in the top 6 and was doing well there. So instead of continuing to see where this would take us, he was moved from the 1st line to the 4th line for no apparent reason other then to accommodate Domi. We're not going to see what his ceiling is with his 4th line deployment.

Small players have to be great to be good. Robertson is just good.

Thinking a little more about this:
I've liked Robertson's effort. The guy has tried. But as I reflected, there are a lot of players in the AHL or below who also gave their all and never got a sniff from the NHL. On the fringes of pro sports is tough. A smaller player has to find other ways to excel to compensate for his size disadvantage. Like everyone else, he has to earn his chances and ice time.

Berube's and Treliving's jobs are on the line. They're going to ice the best 20 players they can to win hockey games.
Berube mentioned that Robertson's game had tailed off.
I glanced at his numbers in the 1st month compared to the second month. They seemed to decline. His SAT relative % was handily a team worst among forwards -11. Maybe Berube is right and has some merit. I did not study them very carefully.

Personally, from what I've seen of Cowan & Robertson (I've missed a bunch of parts of the recent games), I'm partial to Robertson. Berube said he liked what Cowan was doing on the PP and then took him off it today. So some things make you scratch your head.

Bérubé thinks Robertson's play has dropped off. Shocking how a skill guy getting taken out of skill positions struggles. We can watch Cowan fall on his ass 15 times a game any time a player brushes into him though. I like Cowan but man he needs to get stronger to be playing up the lineup like this. I think they are setting him up to fail but the skill and effort are definitely there to make him a glue guy on a line in the future.
