I didn't listen to the interview, but the summary on Puck Daddy seems to lean towards it being fairly obviously a joke. It's an off-colour, uncensored internet show. Not saying it was funny or cool, but I don't think he was actually serious. He was just stupid.

I really don't think it matters much if he was joking.

Well, I mean, if it's the difference between him ACTING violently towards whoever or joking about acting violently towards them, that's still a difference.

Like I said, it was a stupid thing to say and yeah, he probably does have homophobic tendencies if he's going to say something like that in the first place, but I was just clarifying that he didn't come out and openly admit he actively participates in gay bashing.

No, he's just the kind of guy who thinks it's really funny. So, yeah, if you think a distinction really needed to be pointed out there go to town.

I've actually read/posted way more about this than I actually care. A lot of hockey players are morons. I'm shocked.

"Earlier this week, I participated in an internet-based radio show in which I used some poor judgment which I now regret. The New Jersey Devils were unaware of this interview, which I arranged myself.

"I would like to apologize for my poor choice of language. The tone of the interview was very casual and off-color, and I lost focus on what is and is not acceptable and professional. I am deeply sorry to anyone who was offended by my language. Moving forward, I hope to eliminate that type of language from my vocabulary. I would also like to take this chance to express my support for the work the You Can Play project is doing, and for the gay community in general.

"I apologize for the embarrassment my comments have caused to the New Jersey Devils management, as well as my teammates."

Cam is a moron for joking about such a lightening rod of public opinion.  There probably isn't an issue in the world more defended.

Maybe in present day and in certain parts of the western world but I'd say there haven't been many things more persecuted than homosexuality in human history.

While there are countries around the world threatening to make homosexuality punishable by death and many others by incarceration.  While the suicide rate for gay teens is still an order of magnitude greater than straight ones in some places.  While the US republican party continues to incite hatred against gays and promote a homophobic federal legal and economic system.  While people are still beaten for being gay ... while all that's still going on then it seems like it's still something that needs defending.  When that stuff stops happening then we can all happily move on and ignore it.  I can't wait!

It's really not though. I think 99.9% of the civilized world are on the same page with regard to beating up gay people being a bad thing.

Well, assuming nearly 50% of the US doesn't qualify as being civilized then maybe.

Lubomir Visnovsky has filed a grievance through the NHLPA to void his trade to the Islanders, claiming "C'mon, it's the freaking Islanders".

With Philly possibly getting Weber, and the Rangers now having gotten Nash, I wonder what the Pens do to counter.

He's not on the same level as those two, but, I imagine they make a strong push to get Semin to play on the same line as Crosby.

Fills a bit of a gap on the right side for the Pens...wouldn't be the worst thing they could do, that's for sure. Not sure if Doan would consider playing in Pittsburgh?
