Perfect... What a tool.

Real_ESPNLeBrun: Daly says five-year player contract limits hugely important to NHL, as is 10-year CBA term

Real_ESPNLeBrun: Daly says term limit on player contracts is so important to league it's "the hill we'll die on."

Who's running this thing, Brian Burke?

I'm Canadian and couldn't care less at this point if they cancel the season. Good luck with your U.S. fans, NHL.

Whatever you do, drag this on forever until the last fan tunes out.

It stands to reason that if there is no lower level of care left in you, you wouldn't be reading the CBA Negotiations thread to see where it's at, no?  That would mean there is some level of care in seeing what is happening.

Just so we're accurate here!  ;)

We're going to lose a season because of contract term limits?  Come on.

I have to imagine there's some hyperbole there, but, obviously, something happened/was proposed that really turned the owners' off.

What the owners did was they said "Okay, we'll meet you half way on this, this and this, but we're not budging on that, that and that." While that sounds all nice and warm and fuzzy and appears that the owners are really moving in the players decision..It takes two to tango..It takes two to make it to the 'middle'....It doesn't give the players perspective...

The players thoughts are ok, if you want us to meet you half way on this, this and this, you ARE going to have to move a bit on that, that and that.

Of this could have been the last straw?

Along with Hard Cap Hill, Fixed Link Hill and 50-50 Hill. Eventually, one would think, that if you keep promising to die on hills, the hills will oblige.

And again, is it not the owners just self regulating themselves and shows that the left hand doesn't know, or doesn't give a sh*t what the right hand is doing?

Like I said, I'm Canadian and checked out what happened today. It's not like I wouldn't want hockey to happen ever again but I'm a little bored with it all. It just goes to reason that people in the U.S. who look at hockey as one of the lesser sports on their agenda would really be bored with all of this.

I know what you meant to say anyway Potvin so no worries.

The whole thing is just frustrating.

Real_ESPNLeBrun: Bettman says the Make Whole provision in its entirety as a concept is OFF the table.

So they don't want a season then. That's clear to me.

All of the areas where progress were made are "off the table" and there's no interest in mediators.

The League tabled a "take it or we'll kill the process/progress" deal and the players tried to negotiate off it. I just don't get how this in any way gets a deal to happen.

This after all of the "This is our best deal nonsense".

There's a deal to be had here and the owners need to move slightly toward the players on CBA length (8 years the players proposed is pretty good IMO) and contract length (after 10-15 year deals being en vogue this shouldn't be that hard).

I can only shake my head.

As always though there shouldn't be too much read into what gets said publicly. What's off the table today could be back on it tomorrow.
