2012 Toronto Blue Jays Thread

He's up 3-2 in the bottom-half of the 6th.  Will be his last inning.

His ability to work through control problems is much, much, much better this year, but this was nothing short of an ugly start.  In the 3rd inning he had 2 walks and 3 wild-pitches and Mathis had to block a few more in the dirt.  His strike:ball ratio wasn't good and he was close to 80 pitches after 3 innings.  That he managed 6 innings is great but they need him to be more reliable rather than throwing 120 pitches to get past 5 innings.

Yeah. It's really frustrating, because, when he's been in the strikezone this season, he's been very difficult for the other time to get hits off of. He clearly has very good stuff, he just needs to figure out his control issues. If he ever does, he's going to be very good.

Good battle by Drabek not to let it get out of hand.  Last season when he was walking guys he was getting frustrated and making it worse.  Not a great start by any stretch, but props nonetheless for holding a talented team to 1 run (I'm not counting that BS with the catwalk) over 6 despite having some of your worst stuff of the season.

The most puzzling thing with Drabek is that he could be flat out dominant one inning, and the next he walks the first two batters on 9 pitches.  The walks are still a big concern, but the ability he has shown to get out of jams and to harness his emotions illustrate his development.  If this were last year, he would have just unravelled and not even completed 3 innings.

He needs to be more refined and economical with his pitches, but I'm pleased so far.  He went from a guy who wasn't going to make the big club, to a guy who backed into the end of the rotation as a result of McGowan's injury and Cecil's falterings, to a pitcher who I feel has established his spot in the rotation.

Although as of now Lind doesn't even know if he's on outright waivers: http://www.sportsnet.ca/baseball/2012/05/20/jays_lind_waivers_davidi/

Has anyone heard any updates on this? A lot of noise about the unconfirmed rumor but it went quiet right after that.

He's in AAA Las Vegas. Hit a homer the other night.

He'd be there right now either way. The MLB waiver process is complicated (I'll admit, I don't fully understand it), but, it usually last for 7 days. If he was in fact placed on outright waivers, we won't know the results before the weekend.

Romero really not hitting the strike zone yet again today.  Jays down 4-1 through 3 innings, Romero having given up 4 walks and 2 hits.

Bautista hit a solo shot.

The Jays pitching staff is 29th in K/BB ratio, dead last in walks allowed.

Someone's got to teach these guys to throw strikes.

On the plus side, only 4 teams in MLB have allowed less hits, so, they're not paying for their wildness too much, so far.

But they're also 26th in HR allowed so the lack of hits is A) probably heavily influenced by the defense and B) probably not sustainable.

Six walks and two hits through six innings. He is already over 100 pitches, so he probably comes out, particularly with his wildness so far.

Wouldn't the lack of hits arguably go along with the high number of walks, though?  I mean, if their pitchers are really avoiding the strike zone, for sure that leads to more walks, but wouldn't it also lead to less hits, for the lack of hittable pitches?  Just like throwing nothing but strikes should lead to both more hits and more strikeouts.

Ack! And they trotted him out there in the 7th so he could walk the leadoff hitter before they pulled him!

Too bad the Jays couldn't cash Rasmus from third with one out in the top of the inning.
