2012 Toronto Blue Jays Thread

Wouldn't the lack of hits arguably go along with the high number of walks, though?  I mean, if their pitchers are really avoiding the strike zone, for sure that leads to more walks, but wouldn't it also lead to less hits, for the lack of hittable pitches?  Just like throwing nothing but strikes should lead to both more hits and more strikeouts.

Sort of. But that kind of assumes a lousy pitching staff. The best sort of pitch, after all, is one that's both going to be a strike and be near unhittable to boot. Of those four teams that have given up fewer hits than the Jays some, like the Rangers and Nationals who have really good pitching staffs, are both pretty good at not walking hitters as well.

Yeah. What I get from it is that they're not giving the opposing hitters a lot of good pitches to hit and that they're defending fairly well when the other team does make contact. The issue, of course, is that they're missing the strike zone too much, but, if they can get that under control, they could very well be in very good shape. Of course, right now, that looks like an awfully big if.

The other thing is that because they're missing the plate they're probably finding themselves in a lot of 2-0 or 3-1 counts where the "strikes" they're throwing are going to be ones that hitters are sitting on. That probably explains a good chunk of why they're 3rd in HR allowed in the AL and 2nd in doubles allowed. Guys are sitting on the fastballs when they're grooving them.

Probably, yeah. Those will also likely be cut down if the walks/command issues get dealt with.

Jays dodge a bullet - Pena thrown out at the plate in the bottom of the 9th! To extras we go...

Edit: STOP WALKING PEOPLE!!!! Jays have walked 10 Rays now.  >:(

The thrilling status of a treadmill team.  Never able to go on a winning streak or beat the teams that they really need to fare well against.

Lind not on waivers

ST. PETERSBURG -- Contrary to a series of online reports last week, as of Wednesday there were no indications that the Blue Jays placed veteran first baseman Adam Lind on outright waivers.

Reports surfaced on May 18 that Lind had been placed on irrevocable waivers one day after being optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas. However, a baseball source on Wednesday said there is no evidence of that happening.

If Lind had been outrighted, he would have been removed from the 40-man roster after a 48-hour period, but a second source confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that the 28-year-old was still on the club's official list.

Absolutely shocking that a US reporter makes claims on the Jays that are wrong.

I'm 'shocked' that ESPN the Magazine hasn't accused Hamilton of steroids because of his familiarity with needles and illicit substances.

Streaks busted: Morrow's shutout streak. Hamilton's homerless streak. Both bad for the Jays. 8-0 in the 5th.

That's the Jays - win a few, lose a few.

Heh, just saw that on the box score. Had a leadoff double against him and two on with one out and got out of it, somehow.

Jays getting clobbered 14-3.
