DarrenDreger: Carolina trades Kevin Westgarth to Calgary for Greg Nemisz. #tsn

Was thinking the same thing.  I guess Burke is not buying in to the hype of things changing.

McGratten will be out for a bit, though.  Brutal headshot the other night against the Canucks.

Weird trade since McGratton is already there.  Way to go Burke!

The New York Rangers acquired forward Daniel Carcillo from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2014 NHL Draft.

EdmontonOilers: #Oilers acquire forwards Steve Pinizzotto and Jack Combs from @FlaPanthers in exchange for forwards Ryan Martindale and Derek Nesbitt.

Real_ESPNLeBrun: Habs and Canucks trade: Diaz for Weise. A little brawn for the Canadiens, while Van gets puck-moving D

Dumb trade for the Habs. While Diaz isn't exactly a world-beater or anything, Weise is a dime-a-dozen 4th liner.

I still remember Diaz by "player 61" as McLean called him during the playoffs last spring.

Diaz is like 4th among Habs D for ice-time and they trade him for Weise?

He's a UFA and I guess they figured they wouldn't sign him at whatever number his agent was thinking about.

penguins: NEWS ALERT: the #Pens have acquired forward Spencer Machacek from the Columbus Blue Jackets for Paul Thompson. More: http://t.co/zDynzYRkHw

StapeNewsday: #Isles have traded Peter Regin and Pierre-Marc Bouchard to Chicago for a 2014 4th-round pick.

Two players for a 4th round pick? That's value!

Two not awful players either. Good trade by Chicago to load up on some dirt cheap depth.

Yeah. I mean, Regin wasn't going to get much on his own, but, I imagine someone would have given up a 4th for Bouchard alone, and even if they managed a 6th for Regin, that's still a better return. This one just feels like Garth Snow doing things because he's Garth Snow.

And then there's this . . .

Real_ESPNLeBrun: Isles retained 50 percent of salary/cap hit for both Bouchard and Regin in trade with Hawks

All that for a 4th? Oh, Garth.

EDIT:

NHLBlackhawks: Regin will join the #Blackhawks, Bouchard, along with Brandon Pirri, have been assigned to the @goicehogs.

PM Bouchard was with the Isles AHL team since early December after clearing waivers, doubtful that anyone would have offered a 4th.

He's going to stay in the AHL for the time being too, as he was assigned to Rockford. It doesn't really look like he was given much of a chance on a scoring line with the Islanders, which is odd as he was essentially brought in to replace Boyes. And his stats with Minnesota the past few seasons show that he could still be a 40-point guy in the league. I was pretty surprised when he went through waivers.
