2013-2014 NHL Thread

Buffalo's John Scott just leveled Adam McQuaid Loui Eriksson with a deliberate elbow to the head.  Pretty sure he has a suspension coming.

Fortunately Clarkson wasn't in the building.

EDIT: I thought it was Eriksson, but believed the boxscore when it said McQuaid.  Anyway, I hope Eriksson is okay.

I hope Shanahan makes an example of him. He's the worst of the shaved apes in the league. I'm pretty convinced I'm a significantly better hockey player than he is, and I can barely skate. He really only has a job because he's a big guy who can take a punch.

Dallas Eakins is crediting Lars Ellers' stupidity for their win against the Canadiens.

That....and scoring more goals than them.

I like Eakins but of course this whole thing is claptrap.  What if someone trashtalked the Oilers before every game?  Would they be magically endowed by the hockey gods with superpowers EVERY game?  I think an experiment is in order.

Fun fact - John Scott is the only player in the history of the NHL to have played more than 180 games and register less than 6 points. Only one player that has played at least 120 games has registered less points.

5 points in 186 career NHL games.  That's a shiny 0.027 PPG for those of you keeping score at home.

He had 347 PIM in college.  That's insane.

So their coach gets fined/is essentially labeled a goon coach in the preseason. Kaleta gets suspended 10 games for a head shot two weeks into the season. Scott looks like he'll get at least 5 for a head shot a week later. And the Buffalo Sabers are 1-9-1 with 15 goals scored in 11 games. Thankfully I never even bothered to learn their coaches name but if he makes it out of October I'll be stunned. Regier needs to go too for bringing him in.

Agreed.  They are more a street gang than a hockey team.

There's no way to really justify playing either of those players, especially when your team is awful to begin with.

Ex-Flyers Lupul & JvR --> 11 goals
all current Philadelphia Flyers --> 11 goals
;D  ;D  ;D

Meanwhile, John Scott should be thrown out of the NHL.  His only function is to injure, whether it's other players, his own team's chances to win, the goodwill of fans, or the reputation of the sport.

Well, they're a very young team, so some protection is warranted perhaps...however, given Scott's recent history, I wouldn't have a problem with them hammering him with a lengthy suspension.

The NHL can ill afford a guy like that going after high tier players.

I don't think it really provides any protection.  The Bruins are well-known as a big, tough team and it hasn't stopped their players from suffering cheap shots.

That is.  I'm rather shocked he was able to amass that total without being thrown out.  College hockey usually doesn't tolerate that much goonery.

I assume he literally killed a player every 2 or 3 games.

Yeah. The whole "protection" thing is another one of those myths purported by those who adamantly support fighting in the NHL. It really falls apart when you realize that a lot of the guys that are supposedly protecting players are the ones delivering the cheap shots.

I know in theory Scott drew more penalty minutes, but here is the awesomeness of that play:

John Scott - 10 minute match penalty, 5 minutes for fighting
Adam McQuaid - 2 minutes for instigating, 5 minutes for fighting, 10 minute misconduct

McQuaid gets more penalty minutes on that play than Scott.

Also yet another play where a skilled guy misses time and a useless oaf gets a suspension and then gets to go right back out and do the same garbage.

Who goons the Goonmen?

Shoot. Boston absolutely dominated by the Sharks, score with one second left in the 3rd to win 2-1. They were badly outshot, out chanced and outplayed by the Sharks. Jeez.
