2013-2014 NHL Thread

For the first time in four decades (dating back to '67), the Eastern Conference's top team will place sixth overall, providing that this trend continues to season's end.

Not since '67 has a top team finished sixth overall, whether it'd be a conference or division team.

No penalty on the play.

Is one conference stronger than the other?

Well, the 1st place team in the East, Boston, would be tied for 8th with the teams in the West.

That's pretty remarkable.

Edit: I'm watching the Kings/Avs game and Scrivens looks very sharp. Didn't know he was doing so well.

Datsyuk may be out for a while with a concussion. He took a pretty bad elbow from Jared Cowen and actually didn't even have the puck.

I think it deserves a suspension, but that's just me. I get really annoyed when the league's premier players take blatant cheapshots from dirty players.

Yeah. I have to imagine the league will come down hard on Cowen for that one. He leads with his elbow and the head is the principal point of contact.

Yeah, that had better be a lot more than 3 games.  Neither Datsyuk or Cowen were anywhere near the puck at the time, and never mind the principle point of contact - the only point of contact was an elbow to the head.  100% cheap shot.

If Kadri gets 3 games for inadvertently running over Backstrom, Cowen better be getting games.
That will of course depend on Shanny's magic eight ball of justice....I totally agree with you though

Apparently Cowen won't be getting a hearing for that hit. So no suspension. Might be the worst non-call by the DOPS I've seen.

It was apparently ruled accidental, because, you know, guys stick their elbows out like that when they realize they're going to miss their intended target "accidentally" and not at all because they're doing everything that they can to still make contact. I hate this league sometimes.

With rulings like this, so do I.

It's as if the league doesn't care about protecting its star players.
