2013-2014 NHL Thread

As per Dreger last night on TSN: E.Staal, Skinner, Ward on the trading block this off season.

That's the core of Carolina. Yikes.

Man that is interesting.

You'd have to think it will be difficult to find a taker for Ward given his contract.

I also wonder what the interest would be like for Staal. The best recent comparable would be Rick Nash who Columbus got a pretty good return for.

There's only 2 years left on it, so that's not awful. He came out of the WHL so I'm sure a team with loads of cap space like Edmonton or Calgary would jump at the chance to acquire him. The Islanders would be smart to go calling too.

Just to be it in context, he said a lot of it depends on what happens to Rutherford and that it was Staal or Skinner, not so much Staal and Skinner.

Now it makes sense why he traded Ruutu.  He would be a good trading partner.  E.Staal could be the number one center we need for Kessel.

@NHLPlayerSafety: Penguins forward James Neal fined $5,000 for cross checking Red Wings forward Luke Glendening.

Christ. That was a suspendable offence. 10 games minimum.

Non-NHL, but I really enjoyed this read on life in the Central Hockey League, 2 levels down from the NHL.  I do find a lot to admire in guys that will keep playing in less-than-glamourous conditions and for not much pay like this: http://www.thestar.com/projects/bramptonbeast.html

10 games might be pushing it, but come on is that guy Shanahan's godson or something?

Wow.  A crosscheck to the face...Neal is a tool.  I reiterate, I never want to see him on Team Canada.  Ever.  Guys got talent but he's a classless fool on the ice.

How many really dirty plays is that now?

Unfortunately, that is not possible ... Even if Clarkson weren't playing quite so crappily right now, a reason not to have signed him was the future opportunity cost.  His cap space allocation prevents improvement at center and on D where we needed it more.

Yeah, expect the DC contract to rear its ugly head on many future occasions.

All this talk about the Bruins and Penguins as the beasts of the East -- I think the Flyers have to enter that conversation.  They are a nasty piece of business right now.

Speaking of Pittsburgh, okay you rigged the system and got Crosby and got your Cup.  Can you fold already?  Lost to Detroit in OT, now going to OT with Tampa after Tampa ties it with 90 seconds left.  Like just leave the NHL please, you're ruining everything.

I think it's the Rangers. Mason will always screw things up for Philly.

At least they managed to win in OT. They're only partial screw ups.

Boston is scary good right now. Their fourth line alone can defeat the Leafs. They just went up 3-2 against the Coyotes to extend their winning streak.

They play the Habs next, I think, so the streak could stand to go a little longer...

I know it's been said many times, but man what a pathetic franchise Edmonton is.

They're losing 7-1 to Calgary, at home, it's Saturday and it's Hockey Night Canada... and this is supposed to be the Battle of Alberta and all that. The game should still mean something even if it doesn't show in the standings.

The guys who play for that team have to be a bunch of shameless idiots to be losing like this.
