2014-15 Prospects Thread

Would you take Crouse with Nashville's pick?

Yeah, probably. Although it would again depend on who was available and just how real people thought his offensive upside is. If the people down on him really felt he maxed out as a 2nd/3rd line tweener then you still might want to aim higher.

McKegg puts the Marlies up 1-0 on Hsmilton.  The Malies have a few games in hand on 7th and 8th place now.  The playoffs are looking bright and should only get better.

Quality jinxing here.

No kidding. They lost to a bubble team they were just behind - Hamilton.  ;)

Also, and this is probably unfair to Crouse, but it's pretty hard to hear the arguments in favour of Crouse and not flashback to Tyler Biggs.

Yeah, that's exactly the guy I was hoping wouldn't get brought up.

Having said that, Crouse is significantly higher ranked than Biggs was.

isnt the fear that he could end up being Tyler Biggs 2?

More like another Gauthier. He's going to be a NHL player, even if it's just in a strictly defensive role. The question is how high is his ceiling.

Just to let you know its 7:04 in the East and Minnesota/Duluth is playing Boston on ESPN.  Cameranesi and Toninato are on Duluth. Cameranesi took a huge open ice hit a few minutes ago.

sorry looks like the game was played yesterday.  don't know why they are broadcasting today. Anyway Toninato was up against Eischel, so a hard match up for sure.

IMHO Minnesota/Duluth was ripped with under a minute, pulling their goalie with almost 2 minutes, they put the puck in the net with their 6 on 5 advantage.  Was whistled dead after puck in the net. More BS.
Eischel looked alright but not great, think he too will need a season in the AHL.
Toninato looked OK but he was up against Eischel.
The revelation was Cameransi who was all over the ice, every shift giving it his all.
A real spark plug with some major talent.  May make the big club one day. Reminded me of a young Mogliny with a good defensive game.

Yeah. That's around the point in the draft where guys like Crouse would typically go. At that point, you're looking at "boom or bust" types and safe, limited upside types, usually. Crouse seems more likely to be the latter.

Interesting read, make me excited about some of our prospects:

Brendon Mikkelson just signed with the Swedish Pro league. I thought  he was pretty good in the playoffs and may anchor 5-6 spot on the Loafs. In any case he is history. Sayounara MF.

uh, you know that he's turning 28 in June right?

Did't someone say you need 350 games to become a true NHL defenseman.  I still can't figure out why 28 seems to be the year of spoilage like some greens in the fridge that have gone off.
I was not suggesting he as a saviour but could have taken ups some space on our blue line especially in a 5 or 6 spots.
Seems to me we may be moving Phaneuf, and perhaps Polak and maybe Gardiner. That leaves some space to be filled with someone like Mikkleson with some game experience.

If a player hasn't been able to establish themselves as an NHL regular by age 28, the odd are extremely slim that they ever will. By that point, teams have seen enough of what he can do to know whether or not it's worth even considering him for a role of any kind with the big club. The Leafs will be looking for cheap players with legitimate NHL experience to fill out the roster, not just "game experience."

Just read on PPP that Andreas Johnson whom Wheeler has ranked as our #2 prospect has not heard a peep from the Leafs in the least. He is resigned to playing in Sweden for another year.
The question is: why would our number 2 prospects representative not receive at least a courtesy call from Dubas? Are any Leaf trainers etc guiding this guy?
Seems to me that A.J. would benefit at age 20 from starting next season with the Marlies and spending a couple of years there learning the N.American game before he leaps to the Leafs.
Even though he is our property till draft 17 you would think we would keep this kid in the loop.

If the Leafs can keep drafting like this: the guys first goal is sick sick sick:
