2014/15 Roster moves thread

reporterchris: Petri Kontiola is heading back to the KHL once the #leafs officially terminate his contract.

No real surprise. Frees up a reserve list spot, and a touch of cap space, too (I think . . . not 100% on that).

His cap hit shouldn't count anymore. That's how Loophole Lou got out of Shanahan's cap hit in New Jersey.

NHL has a checklist for things like this.

Teams will receive cap relief if:

[  ] Lou Lamoriello is GM; and/or
[  ] they are Philadelphia

That's what I figured, but, I wasn't 100% sure. Either way, it doesn't matter all that much. His total cap hit was $175K, and 20-25% of that is already spent. It would be a little extra breathing room, but, not enough to really impact anything significant.

Looks like a move to save some money.  Looking at the Marlies, I am starting to have more respect for Spott, perhaps he should have stayed on there for another year or two as he seemed to have them winning and is the team all that different in personel?
We used to get blogs of their games on PPP but no one is updating on the Marlies efforts this year, so feel very out of touch with them and our prospects, which is a little discouraging.

Losing Brennan and his 72 points in 76 games was probably a far bigger loss. He was their leading scorer and best player. And none of the other D on the team are really offensive guys so I imagine their transition game and powerplay is really struggling in his absence.

Did Brennan stick with the Islanders??

No, but, he might have had a chance before they picked up Boychuk and Leddy.

And he's with the Blackhawks now (traded for Leddy), playing on their AHL team. A few people commented that they were surprised he didn't get called up when JVR's brother was injured recently.

strange how some guys flourish in the AHL, look great but can't crack the big team rosters. In the case of Brennan, very strange.  He is sort of like a Gardiner Lite.

He has a name, you know, and that name is TVR.

I wonder if Clarkson could work for NHL player safety the next few years??

how does that work, he doesnt have to clear waivers. Is this a special option?

Players coming off the IR can go on a short conditioning stint as long as the player approves.

good deal, don't see why Booth would object. thanks of the info.
Now if only Phanuef would go down with a minor problem and he could condition himself for the rest of his career there. Just kidding he actually played well last night.

I know this is a joke, but, it's also a good time to point out that a conditioning stint can last a maximum of 14 days.
