2015-2016 NHL Thread

So, biggest surprise of the season so far, NJ or Arizona?

Arizona for sure. There was always a chance that New Jersey was going to propel up the standings largely on the back of Cory Schneider. And while I'm not following them all too closely I would guess that they're start is largely fuelled by his .928 Sv% and 1.98 GAA.

Meanwhile Arizona is doing what they're doing despite Bernier-like goaltending from Mike Smith (.901 Sv%, 3.10 GAA).

Arizona's the bigger surprise, yeah, but their success is unlikely to be sustainable. I mean, they could be this season's Colorado/Calgary, or they could be in a similar position to the Leafs of last season - winning despite having poor 5 on 5 possession numbers.

The biggest surprise to me, though, is Anaheim. I don't think anyone expected them to struggle like this.

Well sure, but Frank didn't leave this conversation open for an Option C!

Sometimes, you gotta break the rules.

Busta's comments are stricken from the record.

There are rules in place, and they are not up for interpretation.

I do not recognize your authority.

1) Anaheim - I still don't understand
2) Arizona - Expected a Matthews push with an improvement starting next year
3) NJ - Expected them to be worse but Schneider is really good
4) Columbus - Expected them to be better than this

Nick Ritchie has 9 goals in 12 AHL games.  He was called up by the Ducks and is making his NHL debut tonight.

Don Cherry's boy is 19 years old, and 6'2 and 230lbs according to hockeydb.

Nice to see him doing well. I still think he went right about where he should have in the draft. Not sure I'd be taking him over Nylander or Ehlers as they've both had top notch seasons since the draft.

2014's looking to be a hell of a draft though. Those 3 forwards plus Fiala, Larkin, Fabbri, McCann, and Pastrnak all taken outside the top-7 and already making an impact in the NHL or close to it.

Columbus is now on a 3-game winning streak with a win over St. Louis. They're 7-5 under Tortorella.

When the coach makes the difference, well, at least so far for Columbus.
