2015-2016 NHL Thread

Were they ever really trying.  Who honestly thought that Cam Talbot was going to solve their problems.  They cheaped out on goaltending and are paying the price for it.  They have a crappy team that can't play defense and a bad goaltender.  On the upside, when the NHL locks out the players at the end of the CBA, Edmonton will have a low chance of winning the draft lottery the following year.

Oh, I truly think that the Oilers thought they got themselves a starter in Talbot. I'm glad that even with a change in management they're still a gongshow.

Good Morning, your Leafs are in 28th place this morning.

They have the fewest ROWs in the league.

Reimer is 7-3-1, 3rd in the league at .934, and 9th with a 2.07 GAA.

Bernier is 0-8-1, 3.28 GAA (44th), and .888 SV% (also 44th).

Yes, that's Edmonton at the bottom, along with Calgary, and both are within 1 point of the Leafs...the Leafs with one game in hand.

So this happened tonight:

There's some talk about making something like this a penalty. I get that sort of talk. If somebody trips and their stick knocks somebody in the face it's a penalty. You need to be in control of your stick at all time, it's your responsibility. Heck, Belak even got suspended for something like that didn't he? Makes sense to apply that to skates too, that's going to happen one day and it's not going to end well.

In a situation like that, yeah, should be a penalty. There's absolutely no reason Nash's foot needs to come up that high.

So this John Klingberg seems to be the real deal.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/player.htm?id=8475906

He's right on the heels of Karlsson with 27 points in 26 games, and has far less PP time than Karlsson.

Shayne Gostisbehere, remember that name.  The 1st of the Flyers 4 top notch D prospects to reach the NHL.    GP 9, G 4, A 2, PTS 6.    Morin, Provorov & Sanheim to follow next year.

Just saw this on Deadspin. Alex Ovechkin was in the Russian version of Esquiree answering questions.

On his eating habits:

AO: ?I can eat anything. After practice I can stop at McDonald?s. I don?t have a problem with gaining weight, thank god.

Gotta start leading by example, Ovie.

My sources tell me that this is the McDonald's that Ovechkin frequents.

All is right with the world again.  Edmonton has 22 points and the Leafs have 21 points.  Only Carolina sits in the way of the Leafs best odds to be disappointed at the draft lottery.

Did anyone really foresee Carolina playing with this much suckitude?

Ward and Lack are currently 39th and 44th in Sv% among the 45 goalies with 8 or more starts this season.
I didn't expect Ward to basically play his way out of the league.

I enjoyed this one:

Alex Ovechkin: ?I read books only when I was asked at school. And my parents rarely read me fairytales because I lived in a fairytale. It?s only unclear ? a good or bad one.?

It really shouldn't surprise anyone though.  Carolina is a bad team.

Their defense is Justin Faulk, John Michael Liles, Noah Hanifin, Ron Hainsey, Brett Pesce, Jaccob Slavin.

Staal was always a little overrated but he's not a PPG guy at this point.  Jordan is and was very overrated.  Skinner has been bad the last few seasons.  They have Kris Versteeg on their top line.

Carolina has some guys who have known NHL names but that is a very bad roster.

True, although a lot of that was true last year too. Ward going from average-y to flat-out bad probably can't be explained too much by just trading someone like Sekera.

A guy I'm curious about is Lindholm. I was fairly impressed by him when I saw him last year but he's certainly not producing much this year.

Ward was pretty bad the season before, though, so it shouldn't be too much of a surprise. He's really struggled since missing most of the lockout shortened 12/13 season with an injury. I don't think he's really been that much worse than he should have been expected to have been.

Also, I mean, they were a bottom 5 team that did very little to improve their roster this summer. That they're a really bad team this year shouldn't really be a surprise to anyone.

Easy to forget now that Seguin has become the player he is but Boston got a pretty darn good player in Eriksson in that deal.
