Dirty hit from behind...knocked him out and cut him pretty good on the glass.
How many games will Reaves get? I'll guess 5 games

Not only was that a dirty hit, the back of Tennyson's head partly hit the ice after the hit sent him sprawling.  Lucky he was wearing the helmet.

While equipment is definitely way bigger, so are goalies.

I'll agree that goalies need to be slimmed down, but if we think that's going to solve the 'goal scoring problems' or suddenly allow people to put up Gretzky like numbers I think we may be disappointed.

I don't think anyone expects this to completely solve the goal scoring issues, nor do I think anyone seriously believes it'll lead to players approaching Gretzky type numbers (at least, not early/mid 80s Gretzky). However, it wouldn't shock me if these changes will lead to enough of a change that we'll see a few more 50 goal seasons.

The NHL doesn't have a goal scoring problem.  They just need more Ovechkin's.

10 goals in his last 8 games.

I talked about his recovery a bit before, but last night Joni Pitkanen returned to the ice for his first professional game in almost 3 years. A bit about his injury and recovery here:

A lot of people are saying he had a very good game. I don't know why, but I was always a very big fan of his. I think he was someone I just consistently took in every fantasy draft that I could and he just grew on me because of it. He's 32 years old now, but I'd love to see him try and get another crack at the NHL.

Unfortunately the pain was too much and he has now retired.

Pretty cool jersey worn by the Red Wings in yesterday's Stadium Series game at Coors Field in Colorado, between the Avs & the Wings:

A tremendous piece of writing by James Mirtle last week, charting the consequences of the enforcer role in hockey and one man's battle with CTE.

This Islanders-Rangers game is nuts.

The Islanders go up 3-0 4:45 into the first period.  New York scores two goals in 38 seconds and now the game is 4-3 still in the 1st period.

Jaromir Jagr...movin' on up:

Jagr's goal in Florida's loss against the Bruins last night, propelled Jagr to move into third place on the NHL's All-time points list,  surpassing another all-time great Gordie Howe.

Sportsnet Stats  ‏@SNstats
Games it took to reach 1,851 points
Wayne Gretzky: 780
Jaromir Jagr: 1,613
Mark Messier: 1,691

Philly is really pushing for a wildcard spot.

They're only 2 points behind Detroit, and 3 behind Pittsburgh, and Philly has a game in hand on both.

Malkin out 6-8 weeks. Hopefully the Pens can hold on for a playoff spot.

Big 5-3 win today over the Rangers for them (and us!).

L.A. Kings netminder Jonathan Quick set an NHL record for most  shutouts (41) for a U.S.-born goaltender, bypassing John Vanbiesbrouok and Frank Bimsek.  The record-setting shutout came in L.A.'s 6-O win over Chicago.

TVA Sports is reporting that Therrein will be back with the Habs next season. Amazing.

Admittedly I'm not following the numbers too closely but it's kind of hard to put Price's injury on him. If, absent Price, they've been exposed as a pretty bad team isn't that on Bergevin, not Therrien?
