Not sure if this changes how I feel about him, but I sure was hoping the 160 lbs number that's on a lot of sites was out of date.
Hey, maybe he's been fasting to discourage Arizona from drafting him.

That is a little light for me, too, but I can live with it if I have to.

I was just thinking, if I'm Strome, and a huge Leafs fan, I'm probably delivering the worst interview I can summon with Arizona at the combine.  Then, after changing out of my food-stained track suit, I'm slipping on the Prada and sitting down with the Leafs.

Who wouldn't do that??

That's a little concerning guys...I know the Pat Kane references and all, but man, that's light.

He did just turn eighteen last month, so it's not that surprising.  Personally, I feel a little better seeing that he checks in at 5' 11".  He may gain a little more height, and will likely put at least a few pounds on by the time he hits 21 or so, so probably not an issue.

Well, anyone who was honest, straight-forward and wanted to get their career off on the right foot. Strome would know, or at least his agent would tell him, that there's no guarantee the Leafs would take him anyway and that word would get out about what he did and that he probably didn't need the "problem" label attached to him early in his career.

He could aim to go #4 but still get passed on for Marner or Hanifin and then he's have to explain to other teams why he was such a dink to the Coyotes.

Likewise, the Coyotes aren't idiots. They know he's not going to throw away a successful pro career by not trying his hardest for them.

Yeah but weight is much more easily fixed than height. 2 years of solid resistance training and he could easily put on 15lbs or more of muscle.

I look at a guy like Furious Pete go from anorexic 130lber to 220lbs of muscle and think ok, under the right training style anyone can put on weight.

Seriously. Let's look at what Tyler Johnson is doing this year listed at 5'9, 182.

The Leafs will bulk him up but the truth is, it's not overly necessary.

The Leafs also have a bit of experience with that, Nylander was 169 lbs at last years combine and this April he said he was up to 189 lbs.

I don't need to tell you that for every Tyler Johnson, there's 15 Spencer Abbott's.

Wait...I was making up ratios for lightweight undrafted AHL All-Stars to NHL All-Stars...what the hell is yours?

I was making the point that just about wherever a player comes from or what dimensions he has, there's going to be way more failures than successes. Kilger, like Toews, was a big Center picked in the top 5. Lots of the busts in the top part of the draft, or relative busts, are big strong guys with good offensive numbers in junior like Kilger or Strome. Everyone outside of a Connor McDavid like superstar talent is a longshot to be a great player.

Think of Marner in that context. Everyone doing these scouting rankings knows how big or small Marner is. Every year lots of guys get ratings like "He would be a first round prospect if it wasn't for his size". Marner hasn't been dropped like that. His high ranking is in spite of his size, not unrelated to it.

Bringing up Tyler Johnson isn't saying that Marner is likely to be as good as Johnson, it's saying that size isn't the impediment people think it is if the skill is there.

Guess I should have used one of these (this is for you, Highlander):  ;)

Well, Marner is 5'11 so that is not small really. He is a bit light, but can put on weight as ALL NHL'ers do.

IN a normal draft without the McEichel effect,  the Leafs would be drafting 2nd overall when you take those to hockey freaks out of the equation.

I think it is in the best interests of the Leafs to unload all they can to get other top 10 picks.

Carolina and Florida are marks. They are both willing to move their picks for the right package.

With how deep this draft is, the Leafs MUST be willing to deal and deal hard.

I want us to walk out with Marner and one of Provorov and Hanifin. If we can package that 24 pick with a roster player, move down and grab Barzal.

My dream draft would be Marner, Provorov and Barzal.

159 pounds......but 120 of it in his legs.

Wouldn't get caught up in Marner's weight.  I've compared him to Giroux before, and Giroux was around 5'10", 160 lbs when he was drafted.  By the time of the Flyers camp he had put on 10 lbs of muscle.  Not hard to imagine the same sort of path for Marner.
