I was wondering when this would be brought up but it was mentioned by the panel during Hockey Central that he was 6'5" while talking to Hanifin and he didn't correct them so I can only assume it's right. Maybe this was something that came out of the combine?

At the combine he was measured at 6'2.75", 203 lbs.

There's like 2 drafts going on 1 involves McDavid and Eichel, they're franchise players and then there's the rest who until Button rated them, it was Hanifin at the top, until Button came along there wasn't any doubt. How can you argue with a player who is now 6'5", 200 plus lbs, skates like he's 5'10", defends like Lidstrom with a very high potential offensive game that was becoming more evident as the year went on and he was becoming his team's go to d-man at 17 in university against men. This guy has no weaknesses unlike Strome or Marner or Provorov and he plays mean when he needs to.
...

Where did you read he's 6'-5" now? All I can find is 6'-3 or 6'-2.

He measured 6 foot 2.75 inches and was 203 pounds at the combine.

Hanifin finished T-7th in the bench press and that was the only combine station he finished in the top 10.

Strome finished 10th in the Right handed pro-agility drill.  Marner finished 2nd in the Anaerobic Fitness.

So basically, he's Bobby Orr. At least we're being realistic here.

Does he need to be Bobby Orr for you to be satisfied, couldn't he be Niedermeyer a backbone of NJ's/Anaheim's success but even as good as Niedermeyer was he needed Pronger and other great d-men to get it done. We Leaf fans have held Kessel and Phanny in contempt because they couldn't get anything done on their own yet at the same time salivate over the prospect of having Seabrook and Kane on the team, players of basically the same skillset.

I simply reiterated what I seen on Hockey Central but if 6' 2.75" is a deal breaker for you then so be it.

who cares how much you can bench press until you start bench pressing Stanley cups.

Bob McKenzie, Dreger and Button are going to host/co-host NBC's draft coverage.  We are going to get Darren Millard and Nik Kypreos....this Rogers deal sucks.

See, that doesn't make a lick of sense to me. They have in Jeff Marek a guy who's a good broadcaster, knows his stuff and has been integral to their CHL coverage this year. Why would you go with the same old roster of morons who've been doing nothing but mediocre NHL coverage all year?

I know Bill Simmons isn't everyone's cup of tea but at least his presence on ESPN's NBA Draft coverage the last few years has been a welcome reminder of how ridiculous it is that we're watching this thing in the first place. Liven it up. Have some new blood. Do a live version of Marek vs. Wyshinski or something.

Just anything other than their regular garbage.

I'm sure that they'll have Damien "I've never really covered the draft before but now I'm an expert" Cox kicking around too.

But as an aside to Nik's point, Jeff Marek is criminally underused on Sportsnet. Dude should be on every single broadcast.

They could really go for broke and throw in Milbury and Watters and Simmons and Feschuk.

If you could make a Draft Day Broadcast Dream Team, who would be on it?

Well, that's tough to say. Of the big talking heads the two that know the most from each station are McKenzie and Marek. McKenzie's usually running the show on TSN but he'll likely get drowned out a little bit by Pierre McGuire on NBC just like Marek will on Sportsnet.

One thing I would like to see them do a little more is to bring in guys from independent scouting outlets, and I'm fairly certain I read that Sportsnet will be doing that with someone but I can't remember who.

Speaking of Marek, here's his mock draft that was posted yesterday: http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/jeff-mareks-2015-nhl-mock-draft/

Has the top-5 going McDavid-Eichel-Strome-Hanifin-Marner. My money's on that combination too. He then has the Leafs taking Jake DeBrusk at 24, with Sprong going 2 spots later. He also has Kylington falling out of the 1st round entirely.

I'm not mad at that Leafs wise. If Kylington does fall like that though, I would really pull out some stops to look into getting him.

I was trying to think of how we could get back up there. Would be nice to get that 2nd rounder back from Columbus. Although with BUF/ARI/EDM picking first in the 2nd round and all having multiple 1st round draft picks surely one of them would be comfortable taking a risk on Kylington.

I thought it was Sprong that you wanted at 24?

He is, I was saying (and I think this is what Nik meant too) that if Kylington falls into the 2nd round I'd be pushing very hard to acquire a pick to select him with there.

Now if the Leafs just took him at 24 instead of Sprong I wouldn't exactly lose that much sleep over it, but obviously it'd be a hell of a draft if they somehow came out with both (plus their pick at 4).
