This makes literally 0 sense for Philly, but in a way that makes the most sense.

Oh, It's a coup for Yzerman. Clears the cap and just as importantly allows them to protect another forward in the expansion draft. Filppula had a NMC.

I expected them to either act like making the playoffs was super-important to them and try to address their weaknesses or act like making the playoffs wasn't that big a deal and shed some of their expiring contracts for picks.
