Daily reminder that Leo should not be in the line-up: https://theathletic.com/300982/2018/04/05/where-the-maple-leafs-would-benefit-from-keeping-both-andreas-johnsson-and-kasperi-kapanen-in-the-lineup/

The article also helps to dispel the narrative that "it doesn't really matter which fourth liner plays".

I note that while the article repeatedly states "don't read anything in to small sample sizes", it still ..... presents an analysis based on very small sample sizes.  I would be interested to see where Johnsson lies when one throws out the Montreal game (and say, his worst game as well).  It's wonderful and amazing he got something like 7 shots in that game but it also probably skews his results and isn't representative going forward.  In other words, I don't expect him to continue to have shot rates at an Auston Matthews/JVR level for the next year.

I thought the same thing.  Talking out of both sides of the mouth.

I was going through old posts (on a lark, also Friday at work): things like Dubas Day, Babcock's signing, how everyone felt about the Draft Lottery 2017...

If you'd get a job at the Athletic like I told you a few weeks ago you could spend your Fridays at work farting around in the archives and get paid for it.  Legitimately.  Ahem.  :) :o 8) :P :-X

Also ... nice 10,000th post.  Welcome to Sittler Status, baby.

We haven't won anything yet, and this edition of the playoffs looks like it'll be quite the gauntlet for us, but things have turned around generally very well for the franchise (minor hiccups here or there) with a lot of runway ahead.

Thank you all for letting me talk things out here and enjoying this ride with you all.

I would be remiss to not share this gem that I came across on my trip down into the archives:

I think far more of you are really gonna appreciate the Matt Martin signing as the season gets underway.

I have posted my fair share of gems like that, but I don't think I'll ever reach those heights.

I remember the old days when the team was garbage and we had outright hostility on the board.  We also had some Habs and Sens fans who used to post and generally snicker at the fortunes of the Leafs which pissed me off back then.  The turnaround is quite amazing, I hope this lasts for a long long time.

I still kind of miss GhostofJFJ (are you still here?). Such reliable, relentless negativity.

I agree to an extent, except that we have a very large sample size on Leo that confirms that he is not an NHLer, at least not on the Leafs (terrible possession, terrible offensive production, PK effectiveness no better than anyone else, etc.). He has to be replaced.

Johnsson has done more than enough to make a case for a much longer tryout as the replacement.

Edit: I definitely meant Draft Lottery 2016. I definitely gave no forks about 2017's.

So I just went back and read the game 7 thread against Boston. Why did I do that?

All 52 freaking pages?
Hell no just the highlights. Jubilation with the lead, then the trepidation, the Frattin missed breakaway that would have ended it, then the horror and disbelief

Johnny is going to be a regular Pat Bouttete..remember that one?

Zoutete, Boutete.  Small in size but big in heart.  One of my favourite moments  was when, in the words of a Toronto media scribe, Boutete "pummelledd Bill Barber into submission", during those awfully wild Leafs/Broad Street Bullies Flyers  brawls.  :)

Does anyone have an opinion on whether they prefer the leafs play Tampa or Boston?

We can beat them both, but I'd prefer Tampa first. Bergeron and Marchand scare me more than Stamkos and Kucherov.

agreed...and i think Boston will make the first series a bruising one...if the Leafs get by Tampa the Bruins may be softened up a bit....

Tampa Bay here.  With the Lightning, it'll be a fast-paced skating series.  True, Andersen may have to stand on his head a little more but he's done tbat before and can do it again.

With Boston, it'll be a fast-paced race and physical series, Marchand in particular, never know if he takes someone out.  Not that the Leafs can't handle the Bruins but there may be just a bit more risk of injury (& maybe even fatigue).

Oh man I hope Boston wins tonight.  I realize the Leafs will probably have to go through both teams to make it to the cup, but boy oh boy would Boston ever wear us down in the opening series.  Tampa has been slumping lately and their goaltending has at times looked questionable.  I can't wait for Thursday, this is going to be the best playoffs here in Toronto in a *long* time.  Perhaps since the 92-93 season.
