Matt Frattin plays for this team. In fact their top 5 players are all Canadian.
Any chance that Jason Woolley was involved? Or Conor Sheary?

A fun article from Wyshynski at ESPN looking at what Olympic rosters might have looked like with NHL players. Those proposed 3rd and 4th Canadian lines would have been a blast to watch.

I'm genuinely bummed we're not going to see that American team too. I mean on paper Canada should still crush them but that's the best group they've maybe ever had. Would have been a good match-up.
(Dreger? And these two clubs came real close to making a pretty big trade not that long ago and just couldn?t get it done, and that trade was Taylor Hall for I think they finally got to a place where Ottawa was willing to consider Cody Ceci ? so it would have been Hall for Ceci ? but had to be cleared in Ottawa through ownership. And before they could get clearance, Hall got traded to New Jersey for Larsson.?
...
1260 host Dustin Nielson took a moment before responding, possibly because he fell off his chair, and wanted a follow-up on this Hall-for-Ceci nugget, suggesting ?there would have been more on that deal, right??
?I don?t think so. I don?t think so.? responded Dreger.

No Nylander on Sweden, even in the "just-missed" category?

I find this a little hard to believe but let's pretend it's true and laugh at both teams anyway.
edit: more detailed quotes from Dreger's radio piece:

I know people used to joke that he got his "inside info" from Nonis who is somehow related to Dreger (2nd cousin?), and now that Nonis isn't a GM anywhere he's short of actual information. I'm starting to believe there's a kernel of truth there.

He had a blip in his shooting percentage (plus injury-shortened season), and wasn't his own pick. It's all about culture with Chiarelli. See also: Kessel, Seguin, Hamilton, Eberle.

Well, they only needed the cap space because of the decision to sign Lucic so that seems like sort of a self-created problem.
Basically the equation in their head was Lucic + whatever defenseman they could get for Hall would be better than Hall + a UFA defenseman.
Frank E said:That's fair. But they also had a problem attracting UFA defensemen.
