2017 Playoff Watch

For the Leafs to blow this, they would have to end the season with their worst losing streak of the year, 4 games where they get less than 2 points.  If that happens, I don't think I can handle it given the amazing run they've had this year.

No, I don't think that will happen (Leafs losing the next three).  In fact, they'll win against the Lightning because Babcock won't let them lose.  After being displeased with his players efforts against the Capitals, one can bet the Leafs will be in finer form come Thursday.

There's a playoff spot to clinch at stake.  This Tampa game represents their best chance of the two remaining (Pittsburgh, Columbus) to win it.

I'm optimistic.  :)

I've gotten my second wind this afternoon.  After thinking about it I think the Leafs win at least 1 if not 2 of the remaining 3 games.  This team won't fold like past Leafs have done.

A win and they are in.

Best outcome would be the Sens x Bruins game end in regulation with a Bruins Win.

a game in regulation definitely but i'm still torn on who i want to get the points.  Assuming the leafs can get higher than the wildcard spot i'd rather they played ottawa at this point over boston.  getting ahead of myself a bit i know...

No Karlsson for Ottawa tonight...

I keep running between optimism and downright gloom and doom. :(

Of course, my son thinks I'm crazy and there's no way they are not making it too the playoffs. He hasn't been disappointed as many times as I have. :-\

nothing i can say can stop you from feeling that way ...though apparently even if the leafs lost all three games they'd still have a 66% chance of making it ...but i will say if you've been following this team you know it won't fail for the same reasons.  when is the last time you saw a leaf team that played that strong in the month of march...while the games still meant something.  this team is far from perfect but this tractor trailer looks to be driving nowhere near a cliff.  I strongly believe that they're making the playoffs...hopefully that's settled tonight

I know. Unfortunately I'm always worst case scenario first.

3 points up with 2 to play?  I'm not worried.

Same. I would have preferred being in the Atlantic field but oh well.

Really, you're not worried?

Tampa plays Montreal and Buffalo
NYI plays New Jersey and Ottawa

Islanders play their two games on back-to-back nights so I would say that they are unlikely to win both.

I think that Tampa is the one to be concerned about. If they pull off the win against Montreal, I would be surprised if they lost to Buffalo.

On the other side, with both Pittsburgh and Columbus locked for their playoff ranking, maybe they take their foot off the gas to rest some key players?
Man, this is uncomfortably close! C'mon Leafs! They need Andersen to steal one of these games.

Really.  I don't think they are going to lose 4 in a row, and 3 in a row at home.

I mean, think about it.  If they were down 3 points with 2 to play and chasing 2 different teams, how confident would you be that they would get in?  I suspect, not very.  Just reverse that feeling.

I'm confident enough that these aren't the Leafs we've been used to, still over 90% probability of the playoffs, deep breaths folks, we will be in.

Islanders have NJ and Ottawa, they'll win both and get in.

See that's the crazy scenario.  Islanders go in to Ottawa on Sunday, needing to win to make it.  Ottawa is going to love it if they lose.

Melnyk's so petty, I can actually somewhat see him forcing the coaching staff to use a barebones roster that game if a loss means Toronto gets eliminated.

If the Leafs get a single point, they'll have to win them in regulation or OT - otherwise, the Leafs hold the tiebreaker. Same with TBay. Ottawa will likely still be playing for home ice in the first round, so they'll be icing a complete lineup.

He likes money too much for that. If home ice is on the line, they'll be expected to go for it.

Home ice might not be on the line. They'll know that before Sunday since Boston plays Washington on Saturday.

His massive inferiority complex vs. cash? I honestly don't know.

Worst case is Boston loses to Washington, then Sens have locked up home ice, and we'll see their version of Garett Sparks in net, and Johnny BeerleagueGuy on defense.
