2020-2021 NHL Thread

So more games suspended than goals, here we go...

I think he should get a lot here.  I guess he?s been suspended before enough that it might happen but I?m not optimistic that they give this the punishment that it should

Even in the ensuing wrestling match with whoever jumped on his back, he tries to slam him into the ice too.

I've always enjoyed players that you loved to hate when they're on the other team, but Wilson isn't one of them.

Yeah, this should be a big one. That's so far outside the boundaries of the game. There's no justifying punching a guy in the head while he's lying on the ice.

The career-ECHL goalie got a win for the worst team in the league against the playoff-bound Islanders last night, in case you thought that sort of stuff only happened to the Leafs.

Should be 5 games minimum, so that way he misses at least 1 playoff game. Given what I know about the league though I think it'll be 3 or 4.

He already had a 7 game suspension this season, so, he's a officially repeat offender to go along with his already lengthy history of issues.

But, as CtB points out, with this league, who knows? It'll either be like 4 games or the rest of the season and the playoffs.

One of the frustrating things about Wilson is that I think he's a legitimately good hockey player who would have a place in the league without the stupidity but, as per usual, the league and his team seem to have no interest in actually making a meaningful deterrent that would change his game.

Wow, this could have been very bad for Panarin.

Also, Panarin's hair is awesome.

That is disgusting.

Add that to the original Undertaker finishing move he pulled on the first cap player and there's no reason he should play a game again this season. If the NHL wants to be taken seriously, and show to the detractors that they want to fix head injuries, they've been given an opportunity to do the right thing.

What a joke. Unreal.

I'm waiting for the small chance that there might be an additional tweet coming for what he did to Panarin since it was arguably worse... but I know it's not coming.

Same. If this was his only offence ever (or even just this season), I might be able to stomach a fine for the punch of Buchnevich, as it ultimately didn't seem to do much harm - still a dangerous and unjustifiable play, deserving of more than a slap on the wrist, but, from a clean player, I could see the league seeing it as a momentary loss of control. But, with his history and what followed . . . if this is it, it's clear the Department of Player Safety doesn't actually care about player safety.

And yet somehow the NHL managed to lower my expectations further.  The Rangers might as well sign a guy for a 1-day contract to just chase Wilson around the ice and swing two handed at him all game because the NHL sure as hell doesn't give a shit about player safety.

I know the DoPS would behave differently if the NHL BoG wanted it to, but maybe we should stop having stupid goons running the department.

Confirmed that Wilson slamming Panarin's head into the ice is a normal part of hockey.

The next lawsuit is gonna be a doozy.

Yup. Slamming a guy to the ice by pulling his hair totally happens every night.

EDIT: She's right in that, if it was just the punch from just about any other player in the league, we probably wouldn't be talking about this before the announcement. But, this is Tom Wilson - who was already suspended this season - and body slam on Panarin was not a run of the mill event. Wilson goes over the edge all too frequently, clearly didn't really learn from the 20 game suspension he got a couple seasons ago, and regularly makes plays that (sometimes intentionally, I'd wager) endanger the health of his opponents. This slap on the wrist is not enough for a player with his history.

If nothing else, he needed to be taken out of the rematch tomorrow.

To clarify, since there seems to be some confusion about this on twitter as well: those weren't her thoughts/opinions, that's what DOPS told her.

Ahh. Well, that's a different story. They should absolutely be taking his history into account.
