I know it's just for fun, but a big no to Perry.

I don't know. Perry doesn't have the best reputation, but, he'd bring a physical element to the team that it desperately needs. On a cheap deal, with 4th line minutes, I think he could be a useful addition.

That line-up post was mostly a joke since I doubt there's room for all those veterans but yeah individually I'd be down to sign any of those guys at the right price.

I was trying to figure out how Anaheim had so little space, forgot about Perry's buyout. That carries a hit of $6.6mil for 20/21.

It's interesting how much John Chayka got attention for being this great young GM who managed to take a team to a bunch of playoff misses and a single blowout loss to Colorado this year while having no cap space (and also no top picks).

They don't have a pick until the fourth round this year, and don't have a 2021 first rounder either.  Is Keller a $7.15m talent?

He looked like he might be after his rookie season, but the last couple years? Nope.

That Keller extension was something. Signed a year before his ELC even expired. And he was coming off a sophomore season that saw him score significantly less than in his rookie season. Chayka really thought he and Kessel were going to go gangbusters against the league this season.

I hear Pierre McGuire interviewed for the Coyotes GM job...that could be...something.

Yeah. He's definitely signed a number of questionable deals. The Goligoski contract doesn't look so great - not terrible, but not good, either. Dvorak is looking like an overpay right now, and definitely too long a deal for an unproven player. The Hjalmarsson trade and contract both look like misses (at least it's only a 2 year deal).

Chayka was aggressive, and made some good moves to go along with the bad, but, the overall direction of the team was lacking (or virtually non-existent, really) since he took over.

The direction of the team was "we need a competitive team asap to get that sweet playoff revenue", and to cut him a tiny bit of slack that wouldn't have really been his call.

Fair enough. He seemed to be a much better GM when his job was to acquire future assets. Once he actually had to build something, it all started to fall apart.

I don't even know if I'd go that far.  There really isn't a core of great talent there.  Like, where do they even go from here?  Ask OEL to waive his NMC?

At the same time if we did that with Marner it would've been great. You really sometimes can't see through the fog of the future.

A lot of that is on their scouting staff. They didn't draft particularly well, but, outside of the 1st round, it's usually the scouting staff in charge of those decisions - and, at the very least, they're providing the info on prospects to their GM. Chayka did a good job of collecting draft picks and prospect as AGM and GM. He weaponized the team's cap space in order to build their prospect capital. Unfortunately, that's really all he did well.

I wonder how Dorion does in that same situation over the next few years.

Thanks for jinxing it, gosh

Fairly similarly, I imagine. His track record is pretty good in deals where he?s a seller, not so good when he?s s a buyer - except Melnyk probably won?t let him weaponize their cap space quite as much (he also hasn?t been particularly successful at that when given the opportunity).

Only and always when the salary to pay out is below the cap hit. Like... could we pry out their 5th overall pick with an Andersen package. They save on salary, and even jerseys because they'd only have to swap an o for an e and a 4 for a 3.

Connor Brown.

Might have been able to do that before San Jose collapsed. Even Dorion isn't quite stupid enough to move a top 5 pick like that. Maybe if we throw in Rosen and Gauthier, though....
