I hope they just sneak a move in there one day. Like:

Forward Adam Brooks, defenceman Timothy Liljegren and forward Scott Sabourin have been reassigned to the @MapleLeafs taxi squad.

Forward Taylor Hall has been acquired via trade from the @BuffaloSabres.

Forward Nick Robertson and defenceman Calle Ros?n have been reassigned to the @TorontoMarlies.

That is exactly how I would run comms

Wouldn't there be footage of Kevyn Adams throwing Hall's luggage out of the arena long before this story broke though?

Whoever runs @LeafsPR would definitely know about that trade before Buffalo's puppet GM does.

?He needs to always prove something. He needs to play with that little fire in the butt to get going,? said Karlsson.
I've got just the thing...

But in seriousness there are two or three things Engvall needs to do to completely outpace his cap hit and make himself a core piece (for like 2-3 years), per Jack Han, who was part of the coaching staff that pushed for Engvall to shift to centre:
- Face off improvements
- Release his shot faster* or more deceptively
- optional as suggested by me and all of Engvall's coaches in junior: play like a giant b-hole and just body everyone out of his way

* Like Marner in previous seasons, Engvall has a traditional wrist shot that uses a sweeping motion to build up. Unlike Marner's, it's hella heavy and he used it to good effect in the SHL on the powerplay. This season, Marner has worked on a quicker/harder wrister that is mainstream in today's hockey: driving his force downward and letting the kick of the composite stick do the rest of the work. Imagine if Marner and Engvall develop a Kessel-esque shot.

That's about as likely as me developing a good singing voice.

How's your tonal ear? even without an innate gift, as long as you aren't physically hindered (tone deaf, larynx damage), sufficient coaching and practice on the mechanics and mentality could probably get you to a pretty good, useful spot in singing. Stay within your range, leverage your natural texture artistically, and develop your airflow muscles.

I can see it being pretty similar for driven-dedicated professional athletes. Within their means and asset base, Marner and Engvall could convert their shooting mechanics to be similar to Kessel's and learn to fire deceptively in stride off either foot. The trick is evolving that element without it being a detriment to their existing play and whether it can imprint into instinct/muscle memory.

Any skill can be developed and physical traits improved (though I am tone deaf.)

However, I'm not sure you can teach the off-the-charts fast-twitch musculature that helps Kessel have one of the greatest wrist shots I've ever seen.

Maybe set the bar a little lower in your imaginations? :)

Hey.  I just figured out that herman is the same guy who used to post here under the name Chevboyarsky.  Was an opera singer with the top Canadian company whose name i forget.

Kessel-esque meant Kessel-style, not necessarily 100% Kessel-effective. No one is going to fully replicate that beautiful man's effortless muscles.

The technique change would give them added deception on release and quickness off the blade, especially over their currently slower windups.

I see.

If I recall, I think Kessel has a lower "kick-point" on this stick, which would probably be difficult for someone like Marner to use.

So Andersen.  He's not travelling with the team on the road trip.  He has another checkup/reevaluation of some kind tomorrow.  It's only been 12 games since he hasn't dressed so another 12 days and 6 more games before he would be LTIR eligible.  Are we expecting him to go on LTIR or not?

I really enjoyed watching Phil shoot the puck.

For Marner, maybe with a shorter stick? He kind of already plays the puck a bit too far ahead of his body, so...

At this point, I'd be surprised if he doesn't. I don't believe he's been seen on the ice since the March 19th game. Have to imagine it's at least another 2 weeks before he's game ready.

The Leafs have two more back-to-backs within the 24 game window although by technical definition Andersen could come off LTIR in time for the second game of that back-to-back.  Do we see Veeni start one of those games or did Hutch do enough in the Edmonton game to get those starts?

It seems kind of weird to not give them to Hutchinson, warts of his game and all when Veini doesn't have good North American stats.

Unless he is going to be on LTIR until the playoffs, I don't think there any cap benefit in placing him on LTIR.

Or is there a benefit I'm missing?

Can't maximize the benefits unless he's on LTIR all season, but it would still provide the team with some additional flexibility at the deadline. They'd have to resolve the cap issues before they could activate Andersen, but, depending how long he's going to out for, that might be manageable.

I'm not an expert on stick technology, but what I'm suggesting is that I don't think Marner has the strength to work with that type of stick and therefore that style of shot.

If he's on track to return by then, it could actually be a decent plan. That 2nd back-to-back includes travel - only from Montreal to Toronto, but travel nevertheless. Having Andersen remain in Toronto until game day to start that night could be good for the team.

Kristen Shilton said on Leafs Lunch that Keefe also said if the check up goes well, he will join them on the road. Only thing that matters right now is if Jack can play Friday after tonight's game. If he can' then Dubas will probably have to grab another backup. Don't think Dbl V or Hutch will be able to hold the fort while Freddie gets healthy.

I thought I read that Marner upped his flex which would definitely limit his ability to get that flex that Phil Kessel is getting.
