2020-2021 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

Ullmark carries a $2.6m cap hit, UFA at season's end.

He's no 3rd string replacement, he's going to cost the Leafs something.

If indeed the report is factual, I'd think Andersen coming back in a meaningful role is doubtful.
Bye bye Andersen!

Word is Freddie is progressing but won't join them on the trip. Reassess next week. Keefe also said Freddie hasn't skated yet.

Reassesd next week probably means he's not available until a further week after that at the earliest. This doesn't sound very good. Leafs need goalie insurance and Hutchinson ain't it.

It's such a weird dilemma. You get goalie insurance but would they have to send him down to ice a full lineup like Aaron Dell? Ho many goalies are out there really? How badly would it impact the cap and ability to make other moves? As much as I want a goalie I don't know how much that move makes sense, it really only works if you know Andersen is done for the season or will likely reinjure himself.

All this panic bout a goalie and not one comment about our terrible PP?

If a goalie is injured and can't play, then that isn't fixable.  The PP can try different schemes.  Plus, things like that run hot and cold.  They have had their chances on the Power Play, and it looks like a couple of goals probably should have been scored over the last little stretch.  I think they will start going in again.

Can?t fix the PP without a major move - and, even then, it?s no sure thing. With the talent on this team, the PP will come around. Goaltending depth, on the other hand...that?s a more straightforward move.

What do you mean, Woll has been a Wall with three straight wins and a shutout?  ;) ;) ;)

What the hell is going on with the Leafs PP??  They need to change something up it hasn't scored in 10 games, like try different personel or something. I know Dermott only has 3 points but he's good at keeping pucks in zone, a good skater and also manages to get pucks on net through traffic.  Maybe give him a go, their fancy passes aren't working how about some old fashion get the puck on net with a screen and bang for rebounds?  If you think I'm crazy for suggesting Dermott could it be any worse than 0 for 25 or whatever they are?

I'm not saying Dermott is the answer or anything but try something different!

I'd run the two first lines with Spezza and Thornton taking up the 4th forward spot on each of those.

Matthews, Marner, Hyman, Thornton, Rielly
Tavares, Nylander, Galchenyuk, Spezza Brodie

And for the love of god, stop the drop pass on the breakout. At the start of the season they were using it occasionally. They are now using it every time they bring the puck up the ice.

I hate that drop pass on the PP.  I don't know when it came into fashion but it's a staple of every single team's PP now.  I don't get it.

The Leafs are now on a 114 point 82-game pace.

With their MVP playing with 1.5 wrists for almost a month and their goalies going in and out of the IR all season long.
It's probably better it's worked this way. Hopefully Jack and Fred wil be healthy soon along with anyone else that's hurting.
