2023-24 Marlies/Growlers Discussion

They explained it as giving him a rest day for the upcoming Cleveland start since he started earlier this week (unscheduled).
Saw it later on. Was kind of weird that they still started Cavallin instead of Petruzelli. That was Cavallin's AHL debut. He played well. Couple of greasy goals but hard to blame him for them.
Speaking about the game, was totally impressed with Tverberg. He does nothing but make impressive plays every game I see him play. Looks nothing like a 7th rounder. Also going to be interesting to see what they do with Bellows who scored again and has 11g/19pts in 19 gms. He's got 4 more games max on his current PTO

We traded up 7 rounds(!) to nab Tverberg 213rd overall (2020 rd 7) with our 2021 7th (217th overall to BOS Ty Gallagher)

Damn, that's brutal. Voit wasn't super high on my prospects list despite his very good final OHL season, but would have really liked to see what he could do in the AHL this season. His limited ECHL stats were promising (8 points in 5 games as a tiny 20-year old rookie).

Like that's the crux of the issue for Voit. If you are tiny, there has to be some overwhelming attribute to put you over the top (Marner for example). If the production is relatively middling, there's almost no chance with this current NHL roster construction (SDA, Bracco, Brooks, Timashov, and potentially Robertson).

Just so unnecessary. Clifford steps in with a standard hockey overreaction.

I'm not as clear on the overreaction part.
They're alleging in the penalties handed out that there was a spearing by the Sens player

Imama Bel (major - spearing, player leaving the bench - bench minor, fighting, game misconduct - continuing altercation, game misconduct - spearing),

8-0 Marlies, they made them pay
https://theahl.com/stats/game-center/1025708

Marlies went 4/10 on the PP, outshot them 43-20
Marlies 58 mins, 14 penalties
Senators 104 minutes, 22 penalties
6 misconducts against the Sens, 3 against the Marlies

Tverberg had 4 goals and 1 assist
Hildeby got an assist and the shutout

That's gone on longer than I thought.
How can they not sign him?
Is he after a NHL contract?

Nice steal and play by Ellis ...

This guy Tverberg ... been watching too much of 34?
:)

At the end of the play, Hildeby gets up and is standing beside 84 Kokkonen who is 6 feet, 200 lbs
With all that equipment, Hildeby is a friggin' Sasquatch

I read today that all 14 of his goals have come at even-strength, which is pretty amazing (but also how does he not have a single powerplay goal?).

Imama skated by Hildeby with his stick up and it brushed into Dennis? arm, the biggest and most well-armoured person on the ice.
Yes, probably intentionally because of sour grapes
Yes, it happened after the period finished so it?s off-limits
Yes, defending your goalie is hockey 101
It?s an overreaction because it wasn?t just a scrum and face wash with ol? stinky mouth guard glove? it was full speed fists-first

I'm not sure.

We gave a few Marlies tickets to a visitor in the fall. I haven't been able to go see them yet this year.

Some clues:

Bellows has 4 PP assists so he gets some PP time - probably 2nd PP. 2 of those assists came last night.
He arrived in November. He probably wasn't on the PP until more recently when he'd had a chance to work his way into the lineup

On the 2nd goal and 6th goals in the above video, both PPs last night, Bellows assists from the right boards

At 16% efficiency, the Marlies have one of the weaker PPs in the league. I'm sure they miss Robertson, McMann & Holmberg and maybe Lajoie & Lagesson from their PP units. Those players going to the NHL probably helped to make room for Bellows addition. They had one of the best PPs last season but have lost 60% of those goals from their roster.
The Marlies are about 6th in PP opportunities in the AHL this year so they have had lots of chances. Bellows could help them.

I looked at Bellows 14 goals for the Marlies. He scores from all over: blue paint, half boards, even a couple of seeing eye shots from the blue line. His shot is decent but didn't overwhelm me. He doesn't stand around - he tends to keep moving which has helped his scoring. Seems to have adequate size and strength. But I'm not sure his skating is up to NHL standards. I think his speed is below average. I don't feel like I've got a good handle on him. Not sure of his hockey sense or attitude. Need to see more.

In the past 15 months, the Islanders, Flyers & Hurricanes have cut him loose.
If they sign him to a NHL deal, I think he has to clear waivers.

His coach spoke well of him last night as his PTO ended. He said Bellows was doing what he needed to do. The tone of his remarks sounded like he expected Bellows would still be with the team but he did not say that explicitly.

I've enjoyed watching Tverberg this season. He impresses me every time I see him play. I think he's moved for up the prospects list and I hope I'm right thinking hes going to be a Leaf one day. Nice to see him go off and have a night. ...

This Tverberg kid looks like he has a future with the team.  Hope we see the Beast soon.  Jones last outing was pedestrian.
And I never want to see Samsanov in net again. Although by all accounts he seems to be a great guy.

I suspect he?s hoping for an NHL deal, yeah. I suspect he?ll be offered a good AHL contract by the Marlies, which, even if he takes it, won?t prevent him from signing with an NHL team.

Nobody has called during these 25 games so doesn't appear to be much interest from the NHL. Leafs could sign him to an NHL deal and give him a shot..if he crashes,  back to the Marlies
