2023-24 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

If you aren't listening to Mike Johnson's dulcet tones, he would not be surprised if Klingberg's injury was season ending (maybe even career). Can't even walk without labouring at this stage.

This is obviously not a surprise in any way. Only question now is does he stay there for the rest of the season.

I think it is. Keefe is talking about him the way Marner talked about Muzzin before we received any public clarity.

Steeves will be Jarnkrok insurance. And if Calle actually can't go and the call up gets into the lineup over Reaves, then we'll know what's up on that front too.

I do feel a bit for Klingberg. Like, he obviously struggled and wasn?t good. But it?s a shitty way to go out, ending your season with no chance at retribution or  proving people wrong/changing their opinions

Hypothetically speaking if Klingberg was perma-LTIR'd the Leafs would have about $3.25mil in cap space with the following healthy roster:

Knies-Matthews-Marner
Bertuzzi-Tavares-Nylander
Robertson-Domi-Jarnkrok
McMann-Kampf-Gregor
Reaves

Rielly-Brodie
McCabe-Liljegren
Giordano-Timmins

Woll
Samsonov

Cap space would go up to $4.4mil if Reaves was waived and assigned to the Marlies and no replacement brought up.

If the team wanted to keep Lagesson on the roster as the 7D (and then potentially 8D if a trade happened) they would have $2.5mil in cap space with Reaves and $3.6mil in cap space without.

LTIR doesn't mean he's done for the season? I honestly don't think it's a good look that seemingly bad contracts end up on the LTIR in Toronto. Players may hesitate to sign a prove-it contract with Toronto, it could turn into a playing career death sentence.

I don?t know how to interpret this!

with champagne? Nothing against the guy and I hope he recovers and enjoys a good quality of
life but just not in a Leafs uniform. Now we could use those dollars to get a D man.

The other side of the Klingberg newsdrop is Steeves is up.

He and Robertson made up the wings of the Marlies' first line in the early goings (Gambrell centered).
Robertson-Domi-Steeves would be a fun 3rd line of shorties...

Do you mean Calle (who blocked a shot at the last practice), or do you mean John (who has laboured after two hip surgeries earlier in his career)?

I heard Klingberg injured his medulla oblongata and needs to go to a specialty clinic in the Bahamas, LTIR...  paging Dr. Robidas.

Get better future Leafs scout.
Would you like an umbrella in your pina colada?

I wonder where the Leaf brains were at bringing him in, in the first place, obviously in regression for years with multiple hip issues.  Hip issues as I am finding out with my son are mysterious and usually never end up well. Glad he is on the LTIR for hopefully the rest of the season (with pay, Arn).
