He has better numbers with the Leafs than he did with New York! I guess expecting the best possible outcome when you make decisions is one way to go.

Yeah, the Rangers caused all of this by trading Reaves away and making him look semi-playable in Minnesota. Why couldn't they have just held onto him!

Don't get me wrong, it was a horrible contract from the get go that never should have been signed by Treliving. But I didn't think he'd reach *completely unplayable and arguably worst player in the entire league* bad until year 2.

Lol Treliving was fine with bottom five for year one and year two be damned! But it's the intangibles that matter I guess.

Bertuzzi was back at practice today, meaning someone needs to come off the 23-man roster by later today. It seemed like McMann was likely going to be that guy and headed to waivers at 2pm since he was not at practice, but this could possibly change that plan:

Keeping Reaves over McMann is certainly a choice.....

And while it's only 250K if Reaves is in the AHL we have perpetually been a cap ceiling team trying to find value scraps and that 250K does matter when it's given to a trash player

Swapping in Bertuzzi for Jarnkrok is really going to sewer our handsomeness/60 sheesh

Whoa Whoa Whoa, Bertuzzi is a handsome devil in his home town of Sudbury.

Losing Jarnkrok is just that big a blow. A Sudbury 10 is like a Swedish 2.5 (probably thanks to dabbling in eugenics for decades!). Sorry, I don't make the rules.

Sorry, Bertuzzi looks like the Tasmanian Devil.  Now I just wish he would play like him.

Matthews is beating goalies already set? 24G (out of 39 total) so far at 7% of his set-goalie shot attempts (historically 3%ish) according to Stathletes data

This is about a month old, so missing a few goals

Really want some reporter to ask Tre why he signed Reaves to an unburiable 3-year contract when he was unplayable bad last year and heading for his late 30s.  What did he predict would happen?

Why?

on Kyper and Bourne yesterday i caught part of a conversation about the possibility that Tavares is injured.. and talk about him going on LTIR.. I think the source was Brad May.. but I didn't hear it all clearly.. has anyone heard similar talk?

All but 200K can be buried.

Yeah. It?s a very buriable contract.

I've said something like this from the start but this argument is moot until they prove willing to waive/bury him. We've seen lots of times in the past where a GM wasn't willing to take that step for various reasons.

edit: and of course even if that does happen eventually it'll have happened way too late, and already have cost the team some wins and at least one more valuable player to a cap clearing trade and possibly more to waivers. So the contract will have done damage even if it mostly disappears eventually.

Pretty sure he was saying the Leafs should, essentially, fake a Tavares injury, put him on LTIR, then use the cap space like Tampa did that year with Kucherov. I didn't hear anything that made me think May believed Tavares was actually injured. Of course, with the way he's been playing recently, there could be something going on.

Edit to add - just went back and listened to part of that and right at the beginning May said "I'd ask John to have an injury for the next 3 months and not play"

Brad May probably had one or two too many injuries in his day.
