Also why is Kerfoot doing this?
I thought maybe he was forechecking with one hand on the stick and just had to grab the bottom too quickly, but nope

Kerfoot was coming off the bench(wasn't in the original battle in front of net in opposite end) and I'd say he panicked when the puck was being placed on a tee for him and just grabbed his stick whichever way was quickest.

That whole sequence is absolutely ridiculous, the give away, the old reach around, and the dive. I wish he saved it and left the puck on goal line as he continued to slide by followed by a Kerfoot goal while eating crossbar.

Yeah but it would have reduced the risk if that had been a couple of centimetres lower. Why not reduce the risk as much as possible.

I agree with you on mandating the size, however.
 
This neck guard isn't stopping shit and a regular one would not have stopped that cut above. Until they mandate one that's actually big enough, cuts will still happen.
