2024-25 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

I'd rather Florida lose to the Habs.
I would, too. Clinching a playoff spot is a non-issue for the team right now - it'll happen in the next few days, one way or another - but the top spot in the division still requires a lot of work and the Leafs will take all the help they can get there.

We need one point. If the Leafs lose out they will still make the playoffs because Columbus AND Montreal aren't running the table. Rooting for the Habs is the only option

I subscribed to TSN & Sportsnet through Amazon Prime Video. You can use the Amazon Prime Video app to stream on pretty much any platform. You can also sign in on the web and watch on a browser.
What annoys me is that games on Sportsnet look better through the Amazon Prime app than they do on the Sportsnet app (and of course Prime games on Prime look the best). I get you can't just compare the two companies resources but it's not like Rogers is some mom and dad media/streaming company. It's crazy they haven't been able to improve the streaming capabilities of their Sportsnet product over all the years. If anything it's going a little backward.

The streaming quality is pretty good. I think the quality is 720p at best. It will drop down to what looks like 240p every once in a while for a few seconds.

Most of the complaints I've come across stem from people using the TSN or Sportsnet apps to stream and they sound like they are not interested in fixing the app.

With the amount of money Sportsnet is investing in the NHL rights, I would sincerely hope they spend some money on beefing up the app and the infrastructure to have a quality stream.

I have zero interest in subscribing to cable.
I cancelled cable a decade or more ago. I couldn't handle giving FOX Propaganda News a penny.
I have had Amazon Prime for years - rarely use it to watch anything except the Leafs.
That is good to know. I may try that. Have to calm down some as I was quite annoyed with Sportsnet. They woke up some when I copied their CEO ... :) I'd paid my first month and couldn't watch a single game ...again - for the 2nd year. Maybe they should buy one of the pirates to teach them how to stream their games. :)

They still want to push people to subscribe to cable. It's 2025 and that ship has sailed Rogers.

I continue to be a little baffled every time I see Hakanpaa get out on the ice like this. It really feels like his career, at least in the NHL, is over and he's the only one who doesn't think so. It'd be a hell of a story for him to all of a sudden step back into the line-up in the playoffs and contribute. Would love to see it, but feels about as likely as pigs flying right now.

Pacioretty on the other hand feels like an inevitably game 1 player. He's probably a little bummed that cap constraints are going to keep him out of the line-up until then but the $313,115 he earned by not getting shut down 3 games earlier likely make up for it.

If someone gets hurt during the last few games, maybe we will see one of them before the season's end.

Pretty odd situation. Was mentioned at the end of last season that Hakanpaa was likely done as a hockey player.

Then Leafs said "We can rebuild him. We have the technology. We can make him better, than he was. Better, stronger, faster."

Then he plays two games and we get sparse twitter updates of him skating around.

The Leafs can't place anyone else on LTIR since there's less than 10 games left in the regular season, so those two are definitely out until playoffs. Maybe a Marlies conditioning stint.

I feel like Hakanpaa is holding on for that one moment. Maybe he gets in a game, maybe he doesn't, but if given the opportunity he's going to try. Plays in one game and completely shuts down Florida's PP and then is never seen again after being carted off the ice in the 3rd period.

It did not make much sense to me to give his gimpy knee a lot of wear and tear during the regular season.
Sitting him out for as many as 60 games wouldn't have surprised me. Just get him in shape for the playoffs.
But that window seems closed. How can he get into game shape now and play at a high level?
3 Marlies conditioning games to crack the top 6 dmen after missing a year of hockey? I sincerely doubt it.
Maybe he's just the 9th or 10th or 11th short term depth dman.
After trying all season to recover and coming up short maybe the team is trying to be nice about it and letting him be a part of his last season ....
If he was healthy, playing along side OEL, that would be a pretty good collection of 6 dmen

Reavo too. Plays one game and beats the crap out of someone plus lays a couple of hits. Then is never see again except when DJing in the locker room.

Magic numbers for the Leafs to officially eliminate the possibility of teams from passing them (not including FLA & TB, because they both basically require clean sweeps at this point):

OTT - 7
MON - 1
CBJ - 1
NYI, NYR, DET, BOS, PIT, PHI & BUF already eliminated.

Leafs can clinch a playoff spot tonight with a point.

I know it’s not the same thing - but doesn’t this remind you a bit of when we were sitting there waiting for Yuskevich to come back from that blood clot and it never happened… he was so awesome. Loved that guy.

Leafs have the best medical staff in the NHL and they look for every way to get an advantage. Hakanpaa is Klingberg 2.0. Have to give full credit to Leafs for taking a swing with these "restoration" projects.

If either worked out it would be big. Imagine having a guy the size of Hakanpaa teaming up with OEL for the playoffs... even for one or two playoff games.
