Asking price for Tyler Bozak appears to be a second round pick

I'm just being facetious, but I'd wager Don Sweeney was pretty proud of his efforts at the draft.

Well, considering how all the talk was that they were desperately trying to trade for the #3 pick I'd actually wager he's ultimately disappointed by how it went down.

Touch?!

I thought this was interesting, FWIW.  I knew about Kessel's bonus payout, but didn't realize Bozak's contract had a similar setup.

Signing-Bonus Payouts

It doesn?t sound like the Leafs are sitting on a trade that is imminent and are simply waiting for the bonus payout to take place with Dion Phaneuf and Phil Kessel before pulling the trigger. It certainly can?t hurt their attempts to move either for value, but it more looks as though they?re trying to hold firm on their stance on not retaining salary on either player for the durations of their contracts at the moment.

What?s been less talked about is the fact that Tyler Bozak?s contract features $10 million worth of signing bonuses on his $21-million deal. Loading up the bonus component of a contract makes it far easier for a cash-rich team like the Leafs to pay it and deal a player on July 1st to a team that is just as worried (or more) about their budget as they are cap space.

That could be why the Leafs didn?t push too hard on dealing Bozak at the draft. Teams can pick over what little there is in the way of half-way decent centers in free agency, and those who don?t get what they want can circle back and inquire on Bozak, who will have to be paid a significant chunk of money less than he did a week ago.

Franchise is worth over a billion, they mint money, so lots and lots to go around and toss away..its all part of the game

DarrenDreger: Mentioned this on TSN 1050.  Coyotes remain interested in Tyler Bozak.

Not sure I believe it, but, whatever.

Maybe he's a mover in the off-season?

Rule No.4: always use who if you're even the slightest bit unsure, because no one cares if you use who incorrectly.

After the Carl Soderberg and Artem Anisimov signings, it's hard to argue Bozak isn't earning fair market value.

But I still struggle with the fact that those 2 produce points at a higher rate than Bozak at even-strength playing mostly with Nick Foligno, Boone Jenner, Cam Atkinson, Loui Eriksson, and Chris Kelly.  Bozak does it with Kessel and JVR.

If you put him with lesser offensive players, do you think that number will go up or down?

In other news, MLSE has released various reports stating how ill-liked and cancerous Tukka Rask, 2009 Tyler Seguin, 2010 Dougie Hamilton, Russ Courtnall, Alex Steen and Anton Stralman were in the clubhouse. Thank god for those gutsy and necessary moves.

Seguin and Hamilton were never Leafs so these reports are clearly bunk.
Not so. Obviously they were so cancerous that Leaf management could not take the chance on even drafting them and thus traded out of that temptation.
