10 million dollar players can?t no show this often.  The roster depth gets punished by being top heavy and our top players lack consistency

Thank Dubas for that. I said it months ago. Overpayment for all of them. Tavares was a different situation. Leafs wanted him so had to pay but the other 3 sorry Dubas f'd up and it's costing them in so many ways.

Well, I guess the Keefe Sugar High is over.  Turns out there are flaws in the foundation.  Who'd a thunk?

It's a shame, it was a good game. Considering Colorado was waiting for them rested, it was a decent effort.

If I have one complaint, its the lack of players going to the net. The only one willing to do it was Hyman, and he got the goal doing just that. Matthews and Nylander seem content to wheel around the periphery, then either cough it up or feed it to the point, which usually results in an unscreened point shot of little value and no one there for a rebound.

It was a good game. The result sucked but it was a good game. Leafs keep playing like that, they'll be fine. Brubaurer won it for them.

I saw a lot of loose pucks and opportunities for retrieval where our guys continue feeble attempts at fishing for it as opposed to playing the body to separate puck from opposition.

I'm tired of it. This team needs a real grinder. Hyman tries, and put forth a much better effort tonight, but it's not enough. The majority is far too soft.

Yep. Lots of fancy skating and passing around the perimeter but the puck rarely winds up in the high danger areas anymore. Too much settling for passes back to the point.

Matthews...just a slump? Injury? Or is this what he is, a guy with extraordinary skills (shooting, hand-eye coordination mainly) who is only motivated for short periods of time? Does he eventually grow into a player who is consistently a game changer or will we always be left wondering "what if?"

So far the idea of playing him 20+ minutes a game doesn't seem to be working. Maybe Babcock had the right idea there.

Heh, I watched spezza tie up poor Reilly there on the point again. For the life of me, not sure what he was thinking. He should have already been on his way to the bench as soon as his stick blew up.

I would trade Matthews, Rielly, right now in a blockbuster.
Thow in Ceci, Barrie, and Bracco and several others
Would take McDavid & Draisaitl in return.  Ok not going to happen

Oh and someone other than Kapanen should have stepped up and fought Calvert. This team has no heart.
Kappy fought Calvert? Why? You did say someone other then Kappy lol. No heart because you don't fight? Please.

Nothing poor about Rielly there.

I liked seeing some different top 6 looks in the game. A bit disappointed in Mikeyev over the last month, he's really tailing off. Engvall would be an interesting look on the top line...

They are all just a bunch of babies.  Don?t try hard, quit at the first sign resistance, mope around.  It just doesn?t make sense.  All that talent, zero drive.

I thought the effort was good against a top team in the league.  Outcome wasn?t  great.  Effort was there

What did he do wrong exactly? I watched it a bunch of times, and Spezza essentially broke up any chance he had to properly play the puck.

I'm content sending one of our many soft as butter, overpaid, one dimensional forward (I suggest Willy) to Washington for Tom Wilson.

This team needs a real physical force, and someone who can set that tone when necessary.

Won't happen, but I can dream. Spare me the "game is different" crap too. Watch Saturday night in St Louis as once again this group of fancy boys gets beat down just like last year when Nazem was concussed. Our luck, it will be Mitch this time.

Good read and exactly my feelings as far as Matthews becoming a true star in this league. Could be the 2nd best center in this league.

You figure it out. Spezza isn't blameless but to suggest it's all him. Rielly's play was horrible, same on the 3rd goal.

I agree. It was a fun game to watch. Almost had a playoff feeling to it.
