I still think they're better than the standings reflect for now.

I'm not so sure. They're more talented, sure, but in terms of the quality of their performances, most of the underlying numbers point to a team that has neither been particularly lucky or unlucky overall. Their record is probably right around where it should be.

I think the best way they can add offense at this point is upgrades on the back end. Gardiner is separating himself as the best offensive D man on the team; and probably the best overall - and ideally, he's a #3.

Agreed.  At the moment their d is made up of 3 #3's and 3 #7's.  For a rush team... other than gardiner no one can make a stretch pass

There were a ton of high danger scoring chances the Leafs had.

Varlamov made up for his Saturday stinker.

Oh well, back to an 82 point pace for the time being.

I was able to only go on sunday before noon and there was no GDT but what I was going to say is I was not going to watch the game , as col got it handed to them the night before, and for the most part teams most often do a bounce back from games like that. I would have bet the farm on a leaf loss. But just the same 52 shots, WOW!!!

So in your opinion neither Carrick or Marincin are top 6 dmen and both should regularly be in the press box?

Frankly yes...in the last year and a half both their former teams gave up on them.  I mean Marincin couldn't crack the Oilers D!!! and was given away, and Carrick was a throw in to get toronto to take Laich.

If the Leafs had better options neither would be getting a sniff,  in my opinion both are fill in guys for injuries on a good team
