Black & Blue Leafs - Injury Report

The main thing Karlsson had going for him was his age. Tough one for Bolland.

I remember reading when Karlsson came back that it took a very long time for him to be skating at 100% again. And Karlsson at 60% is still probably a better skater than most of the league, but that's not the case for Bolland. So we can't really use his recovery as a template here.

You know Bolland is only 4 years older than Karlsson, right? Age isn't really a significant factor for him at this point.

You don't think 4 extra years of wear and tear on a professional athlete's body is significant in terms of being able to recover from a devastating injury? I gather you never played competitive sports or have never suffered a serious injury

At Bolland's age, "wear and tear" is also not much of an issue, even with the extra 4 years. 27 year old athletes tend to heal just as quickly as 22/23 year old athletes. Maybe if we were dealing with joint/cartilage damage it would have a noticeable impact, but, with muscle damage? Not so much.

Karlsson came back freakishly early - as someone who is in mid 30s and who has broke / tore pretty much everything at different ages I'm going to continue to chalk that up to him being 22 years young when it happened. Regardless I wish Bolland a speedy recovery.

Always nice to get players back from the IR, opposed to sending them there.

Fraser looks to return this weekend....

That's the problem, though, it's the tendinous portion of the muscle that's injured.  There isn't much in the way of vasularization when it comes to tendon - much less so than muscle - so it tends to heal much more slowly, and there is a lot of variability from person to person.  Hopefully he heals quickly (and fully), but who knows.

I like what he brings to the defense as a #6 and the team as a whole in the nasty dept, and I think it's been missed.

I agree.  He is physical, mean and he can actually clear the front of the net.  I think he will be a welcome addition, espeically against Boston.

I've been hard on Frasier in the past, too, but I liked what I saw of him early in the season at least.  I've missed him, anyway.

So are people spelling easy names incorrectly now for the fun of it or is this some kind of epidemic??

Frasier said in the paper this morning that his name has been spelled incorrectly since his junior days, and with the long lay-off (injury) he has decided to set the record straight.  Apparently the spelling on his jersey is changing as well, although he hasn't decided on a number change yet, but thinks his old number may be bad luck given his injuries over the past little while.

Who knew?

Clearly the team's defense needs some sort of change, but why in particular against Boston? Didn't the Leafs only start doing pretty well in the playoffs after Fraser took a puck to the face?

You are thinking about Ashton.  Fraser is a super tough 6th dman that can fight when Orr is sat out for a forward with hockey skill.

Frasier= now out of production NBC comedy show starring Kelsey Grammer.

Fraser= that verschlugginer retired NHL referee who still needs a beatdown.

Frazer= Leaf player about to come off IL (edit, crap, never mind. He spells it Fraser like the RefereeWhoShouldNotBeNamed)

Frazier= Joe, the retired boxer.

I think I covered it :)
