Blacker to Ducks for depth.

Think he gets thrown right at top tonight? Carlyle clearly doesn't want JVR at centre anymore.

Welcome to the team, kid. No time to practice. You get 20 minutes on the 1st line tonight. Go.

If he does that will be quite the day.  He's from Caledon, ON so he might go from Anaheim's farm team to centre-ing the Leafs top line, in Toronto, on Hockey Night in Canada.

Oh, and I don't know what your coach told you over in Anaheim, but here in Toronto we only take quality shots on net. We want you picking corne.... no wait don't pick corners, just shoot. We need shots on net and we need them bad. But they better be quality! Say it with me, quality over quantity, except for when we want quantity. Got it? Good.

Interesting fact about Staub: Colton Orr has 2 goals and 1 assist more that Staubitz, with Orr playing 209 more NHL games.

Carlyle says that Holland will get an opportunity to play with some of the team's better players.

Carlyle wouldn't say if Holland acquisition would push JVR back to wing. Seems like a possibility.

Well Smith isn't moving from that 2nd line spot after his game and McClement ain't going anywhere. And Holland wasn't acquired to play wing. So yeah, he and Smith are definitely going to be centering our top 2 lines.

Peter Holland --> His childhood hockey idols were Mats Sundin and Joe Sakic ? ?I?ve always been a Leafs fan and I love the way Sakic plays?.

NHL Central Scouting?s Chris Edwards
"When he is competing, he is very noticeable and effective. He is used both on the power-play and penalty-kill units, and at times he has been used at the point on the power-play. He skates very well, smooth, and he generates good speed. He has a very good shot."

Guelph Storm head coach Jason Brooks
"I think he has the potential to be a power forward in the sense he's got a great shot, skates well, big body, strong kid. He sees the ice well, good playmaker, and a scoring threat when he's on the ice. Defensively, he's pretty responsible in his game."

It creates a very interesting dilemma if he actually comes into the NHL and is successful.  The Leafs need to make more of these trades though.  They have a lot of these middling defensive prospects/NHL defensemen and not enough depth in the forward position right now.

The Leafs and Anaheim sure like to trade a lot.\

He's getting a huge opportunity, hope he makes the most of it.  Watching JVR at center destroying our top line was painful.

Apparently, Bodie has been sent to the Marlies, which makes one thing clear to me - I still don't have the whole waivers things under wraps. He's definitely not exempt from waivers, and he'd been on the roster for more than 30 days since he last cleared waivers (unless I missed something - last time I can find him having cleared waivers was the beginning of October), and yet, no waivers. I guess he was considered to be on emergency recall, in which case, the 30 day period doesn't matter, just the 10 games, and since he only played 9 . . . weird little loophole, but, whatever.

I was thinking this too. He has two games to make an impression. Bozak and Kadri will be back after that and are guaranteed line-up spots (well Bozak might need a game or two more, but his return is definitely soon). With them back there's two centre spots left for Smith, Holland, McClement, and Smithson. McClement is obviously a lock. I think Smithson has done enough to deserve a spot on this team going forward. So unless both of those guys play on the 4th line there won't be room for Holland or Smith even if they do play great.

Personally though, if Holland looks legit I go with this:

JVR-Bozak-Kessel
Lupul-Kadri-Kulemin
Raymond-Holland-Clarkson
McClement-Smithson-Orr/Ashton

Obviously, I'd prefer Ashton on that 4th line but Orr will likely win out. The only problem is there isn't really a designated checking line. But early in the season when we had Bozak-Kadri-Bolland I didn't really get the sense that Carlyle was too interested in playing the line matching game so maybe it won't be a problem.

According to Dreger, Bozak's about 10 days away, so, that gives Holland 4 or 5 games to make a good impression.

Yeah, I didn't get the sense that he would be back on the 21st.

I'll give Nonis credit, at least he's doing something about the problem.

We'll see how it works out, but I'm not holding my breath.

Not even sure why, but I've been routing for Blacker. This trade makes sense though and it seems to be fairly good value.

I refuse to mention Colborne.

???

damn it!

Didn't Colborne have to pass through waivers to send him down?

Even before getting this kid I was wondering if Carlyle might try Smithson as the fill-in on the top line.  He's got the most NHL experience and he's shown he can win draws.

I'd rather see Smith there.  Of course Holland changes everything.  I'm sure RC eases him into the lineup, maybe 3rd line tonight.

Well, if they do use the kid on the top line with JVR, and it clicks, it'll only be a matter of time before they start calling it the Double Dutch Line.

The real question is, if Holland performs well, does he warrant Team Canada consideration?

Seriously though, hoping he comes out full of adrenalin, at least for tonight...
