Blackhawks vs. Maple Leafs - Dec. 2nd, 7:30pm - Prime, TSN 1050

Answer me this batman....the 34 line just scored and literally just got on the ice...why not leave them on? Are they tired from lifting their arms celebrating? Seems weird to me.

Putting him on IR rather than LTIR maybe leaves a sliver of hope
Only 2 games played since Mar 19, 2024 ...
The only ones who can really say much are the player and the team.
I'm not into the media speculation.
It has to be increasingly difficult to count on Hakanpaa for much next spring.
The Leafs have a great strategy. They get good players that have injuries and entice them with their medical team, thats the top in the NHL. Maybe the player's career can be revitalized. Then Leafs get a good player for cheap. Or they get a sunk cost they can get off the balance sheet with LTIR.

For a super wealthy franchise like the Leafs, the sunk cost doesn't even count as a rounding error. But it can give a bit of an advantage for a team that has a terrible cap architecture trying to make every penny stretch for depth players.

And for the player, if a franchise can revitalize their career with their superior medical program, then its a massive benefit. So its a flyer thats win win for all sides.

Klingberg 2.0.

I'd expect them to do it again in the future.
