Blues @ Leafs - Feb. 9th, 7:30pm - SNO, TSN 1050

Good Lord.  He made that look easy.

He just kicked all 3 skaters asses, and then Andersen's to boot.

I don't want to go out on a limb here but Vladimir Tarasenko is pretty good at hockey.

Not that Paul Romanuk is a brilliant analyst, but he did just describe Tarasenko as someone who lies in the weeds and then BAM finishes you off.  Good description I'd say.

Also, the numbers they put up showed that he's quite proficient at scoring tying and go-ahead goals. He thrives when the game is close.

Why Babcock keeps throwing Komarov out there in OT is mind boggling.

Yes.  But an even more interesting thing about that graphic was Cam Atkinson was 5th.  Talk about flying under the radar.

I'm sure Babs has his reasons, but Komorov and Kadri right off the hop? We've got three kids with amazing wheels that were made for open ice 3 on 3- get them out there.

Agreed.  With all the speedboys on the team it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.  In fact, if you remember when Marner played a bit of PK awhile back ... heck, I'd be willing to try him out there *defensively* in OT.

EDIT: McGarnagle just saw your post, ya.

Do you want to use the kids against Tarasenko though? None of them are all-star defenders.

Fair point, but with 3 on 3, I'd sooner go with players capable of generating chances over those defending them.

Yeah, I'm willing to throw defence basically out the door for 3-on-3. Play Kadri-Nylander, Matthews-Marner, and Bozak-JVR + Rielly/Gardiner/Zaitsev. Nobody else should see the ice unless a guy is absolutely gased, and then Brown goes out.

Sure, but Kadri is fairly capable of generating chances. He's the only guy on the team with more than one OT goal this year so if you're effectively going with short bench for OT and limited pairings I think it stands to reason you might want your best defensive one against the other team's best offensive one and then exploit their weaker lines with Matthews/Marner.

It didn't work out this time because Tarasenko did something he's capable of doing no matter who is on the ice but strategically I think there's some solid footing.
