Congrats Mike Smith on your 1 good season 3 seasons ago which somehow means you deserve a spot on the roster.

He earns the right to maybe be the backup goalie for a game or two in the preliminary round.

I know he won't see action (but he COULD, Luongo's already been hurt once), but still, the optics are rewarding someone who doesn't deserve to be listed among those other players and potentially win a gold medal as opposed to taking a younger goalie (like with Fleury last time) and reward him for his play as well as give him the experience of being there.

Hamhuis is a surprise to me. He wouldn't have even registered as being under consideration for me.

Yeah that's the biggest head-scratcher for me. I'm happy Sharp made it.

EDIT: Carter as well now that I'm remembering the roster..

Goal: Roberto Luongo; Carey Price; and Mike Smith

Defence: Jay Bouwmeester; Drew Doughty; Dam Hamhuis; Duncan Keith; Alex Pietrangelo; PK Subban; Marc-Edouard Vlasic; and Shea Weber

Forward: Jamie Benn; Patrice Bergeron; Jeff Carter; Sidney Crosby; Matt Duchene; Ryan Getzlaf; Chris Kunitz; Patrick Marleau; Rick Nash; Corey Perry; Patrick Sharp; Steven Stamkos; John Tavares; Jonathan Toews

I figured Thornton would have made the team before Marleau did.

Seabrook being left off while Hamhuis made it is surprising.

Kunitz over Giroux is silly.

St. Louis will always be underappreciated.

Did Yzerman just say, "Our team, the U.S. team?"

I wonder if he just visited Mayor Ford before the announcement this morning? HE seems a little off his game today.

Is Vlasic even the best Canadian defenseman on his own team?  Don't know too much about him.

That is a thoroughly Western Conference dominated defense core.

That's because he has to face St. Louis later

I've only paid attention to him this year because I own him in fantasy. He's so solid. Yeah, I like him better than Boyle.

Full roster....

Edit: looking at the size of this team, it's pretty large. Crosby is the smallest player, along with Duchene, listed at 5'11".

As an impartial observer I am quite surprised.

I would do lots of changes, such as

Smith out - Bernier in (ok, here I may be biased, but there are certainly better picks than Smith)
Hamhuis/Vlasic out - Seabrook in
Nash out - St Louis in
Marleau out - Thornton in
Carter out - Giroux in
Kunitz - meh, that?s all Sidney?s work I guess

It seems that Steve Y relies on chemistry the players have from their respective teams Crosby-Kunitz, Getzlaf-Perry, Toews-Sharp

As Mirtle points out, no Canadian has more points than Giroux the last 3 seasons.  Don't see why you'd leave him off at all.

He's the new Spezza. Incredibly talented centre who scores a ton and is underrated defensively. Spezza couldn't crack the team in 2010 because of the centres ahead of him. You could say the same about Giroux but like you said he can play wing as well. He really should be on the team.
