After he gets paid his $9,608,000 signing bonus on July 1st Marner will have just $24.8mil left on his contract spread over 4 seasons.

You know, if anybody was wondering.
Seth Jones trade?

On that note.  I really think that making the playoffs in Matthews and Marners first season is where this thing went off the rails.  I think that it has lead them to believe that they just will always make the playoffs, and maybe they don't respect it as much as they need to.

I would rather have seen them move guys like JVR and Bozak which might have meant they'd have a better (younger/faster) supporting cast right now rather than relying on Thornton, Simmonds, etc.

The collapse of the PP is maybe the most frustrating thing of all about this team.  It's almost unbelievable that it could be so bad for so long.
The PP will literally be their demise and Ice been calling this for a while. If they didn't win the special teams battle more decisively they'd be done and here we are.

This team just absolutely wilts under pressure. It?s quite extraordinary.

Gotta change something, just not sure what. This feels like a psychological issue rather than a talent issue.
Psychological is sometimes more powerful than physical. If they don't have the fortitude then who cares how much skill they have?

Which is why I really worried about Montreal going into this series.  Calgary also worried me.  Hitting the Leafs and disrupting their flow just absolutely sends them for a loop.

This resonates. What a set of garbage showings of the last 3 games.

This is likely the last few minutes of Thornton's career, since the Leafs shouldn't re-sign him and I can't imagine any other team wanting him either.
I don't see the Leafs bringing him or Simmonds back.

Why the hell are we putting Matthews in front of the net and giving Marner the shooting spot still.  How incompetent is the coaching staff?

Malhotra should never be allowed to run a powerplay again in his life.

Well even go back further than that and the trade for Andersen was probably the wrong move at that time.

True, but, in theory, a psychological issue is also simpler to overcome than a talent issue. This group just needs to get it done once, and they?ll be basically past it. Need a good amount of luck for that to happen tonight, though.

Hyman hasn't converted any of his chances but he's the only one who's driving any kind of consistent offense.
