Central Scoutings final draft rankings....

Ok if we get Eischel, then we sign Evan as well. LOL

At this point it's virtually impossible that they draft Eichel. They have no shot at the #2 pick.

Could Eichel fall like Kessel did in his draft year?

Seems pretty unlikely.

Unlikely, yes, however, I could see Hanifin, partnered on the blueline with Zach Bogosian, making the Sabres rock solid defensively for years.  You just never know how teams are thinking at the draft table.  :o

In order for Eichel to fall to the Leafs, two teams would have to pass on him. Even if Buffalo would, and they won't, neither Arizona nor Edmonton(the only other teams who might draft second) would let him pass.

Also, you're tremendously overrating Zach Bogosian.

I agree, it's unlikely Arizona or Edmonton would pass on Eichel, however, you just never know what these teams have decided after interviewing these players.

Zach Bogosian is only 24 years old.  He likely hasn't fully developed as an NHL defenseman.

So, just so we're clear, I said it was "virtually impossible" that the Leafs draft Eichel and you thought it was important to point out that anything is technically possible?

You know what's funny, I originally never said that Eichel would fall to the Leafs.  I posed a question asking if it were possible for him to fall similar to Kessel.  Instead of him being selected 2nd overall, I'm wondering if he could fall to number 3.

I agree with it being 'virtually impossible' for the Leafs to draft Eichel, or McDavid, without them winning the lottery.

Kessel's fall was one that took place over the course of a year. He wasn't the top ranked NA skater headed into the draft and that was a year where there was not a ton of consensus anywhere. When the top of the draft is a grab bag, there's going to be all sorts of factors that play roles in where players are taken that might not ordinarily.

Eichel is being hailed as a near-generational level talent. Guys like that don't fall because of interviews. They don't get passed over. It's not a comparable situation.

So, to sum things up, McDavid will go at #1, and, Eichel will go at #2.  No variance allowed!

Eichel going #3 has about the same odds of happening as McDavid has of going #2. Sure anything can happen, but it's not going to.

If Buffalo draft second and the Leafs 4th, is there any way we could swing a trade with them to swap picks and send Kessel to them? Or will it take much much more than that?

That's not happening.

I wonder if there is a deal out there that could somehow involve Florida's first and Kessel.  This based only on marginally credible rumors that they could have interest in him in the offseason.

The teams that arguably have enough talent/young players to maybe take a chance trading a top 10-ish pick would be:

Columbus (they have a lot of prospect depth but lack a lot of top 3 type players)
Florida (they have a young solid core and could be ready to augment)
Philadelphia (they still have a lot of decent players and their GM is liable to be stupid)
Dallas (they have a handful of really good players and a lot of roster holes but also made a couple of big trades in the last few years with Spezza/Seguin)

I'd love to see Dallas make a play for Kessel. Benn-Seguin-Kessel? Ridicidonk!

(the rest of their line-up, not so much)
