Nonis' "fix" costs his team $30 mil (less insurance).

Horton's contract is not insured.

$17 mil error on GM of Blue Jackets (team would still have to pay $13 mil of $30 mil balance if it had been insured)

That explains the deal. 'Nuff said. MLSE is bailing Nonis out for full pop on that $30 mil.

They would have been paying $30 mill anyway for clarkson over  that time period.  Its what we call in finance a sunk cost.

Honest question:

Once the season was out of reach a couple of weeks ago, why didn't they try Clarkson on the top line to see if he'd improve/showcase him?

Not saying he'd deserved it, and that may have gotten in the way of this deal happening, but it would've shut him up at least (and O'Neill too).

I still think he's an ok player at best (there's a reason he wasn't drafted in my mind), and horrifically overpaid.

First off, I don't think Clarkson needs shutting up. Considering how things have gone I think he's handled things relatively well.

As to the other thing, there's really no benefit to showcasing Clarkson and it sends a bad message to the rest of the team to reward his crummy play.

"no one" haha.

Cox or Simmons said basically the exact same thing a couple of weeks ago too.

Don't I remember a collective groan when they signed Clarkson?

I think opinion was sort of divided, like anything else. I didn't like the term/cost but Clarkson was billed for a long time as being sort of the perfect 3rd line player so I didn't hate the idea that they signed him right away.

There's a good example of a stat that proves nothing.  Unless Alter is seriously telling us that we're going to go .696 the rest of this season.

I think the split was between those that thought he might do some good for too much money vs the group that thought he'd do nothing good for too much money. I suppose I could go read some old threads, but I'm too mind-boggled right now for that.
