Crosby returns from concussion - UPDATE 12/12: Symptoms return

Crosby had a press conference, said the concussion-like symptoms have returned.  "No timetable" for his return.

That's not good news at all. I didn't think Krejci's elbow was that much of a hit.

Hope no one bet on Crosby winning the scoring title

Okay, now I'm getting concerned that we will never see a full and healthy career out of Crosby like we didn't with Lindros. :(

Honestly, at this point, I've been thinking that for a while now. At least for his sake he's already won just about everything a hockey player can win.

If Bettman thinks he can ignore the Boogaard article and all the trauma research coming about now, he'll need to do a rethink if Crosby's career is ruined.  Hits of the head of any kind are going to have to be outlawed, plain and simple.

It was starting to look that way even before the concussions, with the number of other injuries Crosby suffered from (even though most were minor). These concussions have really just made it practically a certainty.

Sad but true.  It's entirely possible his career doesn't span too much longer.

That never occurred to me until this concussion injury last year. I never gave the other injuries a second thought because they seemed fairly minor.

The person I thought would have a shorter career between the two was Ovechkin because the way he played seemed to punish his body more.

The most punishment Ovie's body takes is from the constant stream of McDonalds he puts in to it.  I think his regression over the past season or two has a lot to do with him being unhealthy.

This is very bad. Crosby is going to follow the path of another great players such as Pat Lafontaine or Eric Lindros whose carriers were ruined. such an amazing talent gone.

NHL can't protect its star players? What else is new...

I'm not sure what the league is supposed to do when it was incidental contact that caused the reoccurrence of Crosby's symptoms.

And potentially incidental contact that cause the initial concussion. The only thing the league could have done was not allow Crosby to come back, but that's a decision the team, doctors, and player all made.

I still think he should have sat the whole year out.

Exactly.  Exactly what I was thinking, too.  Sit the year out longer and then return just in time for the playoffs.  That may have worked out better in Crosby's favour.

Why would you think you know better than Crosby's multiple world-famous concussion doctors?
