More to the point: what does any of this have to do with this thread?
But since we are here, I do not trade JVR.
Really? You're picking on my post?
I brought this up because of the trading JVR to get a centre discussion.
Actually not... I was just surprised to see screen after screen on trades when I was expecting some more focus on who we might pick in this year's draft< I do understand that trading to move up or down in the draft is part of that discussion but you know, there is a point at which it gets carried away.
As for trading to move up or down, what is the point?
We traded to move up to get Schenn and that didn't work out all that well (except for his ultimate trade for JVR) but my point is that Schenn was not worth the trade nor was Biggs.
It seems that round one is as much a crap shoot as any of the other rounds and maybe more.
After all Detroit and several others have done quite well drafting after the first round. It seems illogical but the number of first round failures really makes me wonder if teams would not be better off without the 1st round hype an general managers generally mismanaging and just let their scouts handle the draft.
In fact after the last decade of trades (Rask, Raycroft Toskala, Seguin and Hamilton) it may be that net we would have been better off simply drafting and developing. I realize that Edmonton is the argument against that but I have to really question how much farther ahead we are than we would have been.
