Game Notes

CGY
-Markstrom (8-6-1, 2.87 GAA, .909 Sv%) will likely start for the Flames
-Calgary is in a bit of a rut, going 1-4 in their last 5 games. Their latest game was an embarrassing 7-1 loss to the Oilers
-Sean Monahan has missed Calgary's last 2 games with a lower body injury
-Matthew Tkachuk has scored a goal in just 1 game over the past 4 weeks, a stretch that started with Muzzin flipping a puck at him

TOR
-Andersen (13-3-2, 2.69 GAA, .905 Sv%) will likely start for the Leafs
-Eyes will likely be on Nylander after behind benched for the 2nd half of the 3rd period on Saturday
-Muzzin did not finish Saturday's game on the bench as he took a stick to the face late in the game. There hasn't been any update on him so I'd imagine no new is good news here and he'll be fine to play
Injuries

Sean Monahan - Lower Body - Questionable Monday
Derek Ryan - Finger - Injured Reserve
Code:

Wayne Simmonds - Hand - Injured Reserve
Jack Campbell - Lower Body - Injured Reserve

Muzzin could probably use a maintenance day TBH. He's been blocking shots, getting hit repeatedly by guys like Anderson, and now a stick in the mush.

But he needs to play so he can flip the puck at Tkachuk after the game. It should become a tradition.

And we don't discuss traditions.

Great job CtB (as Always). Go Leafs Go!!!

Earth to Tavares and Nylander, awesome linemates and B squad D matchups. What scenario could better for these guys? Let's Go!

A win tonight and the Leafs would be 21 points up on Ottawa 20 games into the season.

Before last night, the Leafs had more than 3 times the amount of points as Ottawa. Can't quite get back up there tonight, but can get pretty close. As bad as Ottawa is, I would have thought they'd benefit some from playing in weaker divisions than the Atlantic would typically be. Guess not.

I think I would:
Tavares - Matthews - Marner | practicing the overload
Vesey - Kerfoot - Nylander | this worked for a short while before and could be funny
Mikheyev - Engvall - Barabanov | make nothing happen, but play in their zone
Petan - Boyd - Spezza | best 4th line we've got

I would also entertain
Nylander - Matthews - Marner
Kerfoot - Tavares - Spezza
Vesey - Engvall - Mikheyev
Petan - Boyd - Barabanov

Presumably the Thornton and Hyman injuries aren't serious so I'm expecting them to do more band-aid/less-fun type changes to the lines, so:

Vesey-Matthews-Marner
Kerfoot-Tavares-Nylander
Mikheyev-Engvall-Barabanov
Petan-Boyd-Spezza

I'm okay with this. Matthews and Marner are happy to play completely ignoring their linemate, and maybe bouncing something off Rielly once in awhile.

Goddamnit
FUUUUUUDGEicles... ouch all three guys fill a very specific niche. Lets see what Dubas' depth can do.

Ya, put me on that line, they're probably still scoring 3 goals between them.

If we could poach Mangiapane off a faltering Flames lineup...

Can we talk about a half second look back was the greatest event in the history of sports on a play that broke a bone in Muzzin's face meanwhile that same player heroically overcame the play to skate to the front of the net and score a goal.

I just can't believe how incredible that play was.  Kind of hoping we can devote the whole first period intermission to the event.  I don't think the extended slow motion replay with Craig Simpson commentary was enough.

Only three games this week so hopefully it doesn't take too long to get him back on the ice.
