Flyers @ Leafs - Dec. 20th, 7:00pm - CBC, Fan 590

Odds of them coming out tomorrow, riding the goalie and some opportunistic goals to beat Chicago and all of the same Carlyleisms being swept under the rug?

Announcers:  "Carlyle comes with the 4th line after a goal...tells you what he thinks about the 1st"

Nope, that's his default strategy.

Hey you guys I had left but came back so someone can tell me something. During the intermission they were talking about a player a lot of teams were interested in. Can someone tell me who Friedman was talking about. Thanks.

NHL starter? I dont think so .... this is what happens when you mess with a winning lineup... looks good on Carlyle

This is not a result of a few line-up changes. It's just an all-round poor effort by the team.

While I do agree with a piss poor effort all round.... 1/2 of those are NOT NHL goals.....outside of 6-8 games this year, he hasnt proven anything. He certainly isnt head and shoulder above Reiner this season. You cant argue that. I was certainly hoping, check that, praying he was... its gotta be the stupid 1917 haircut ;)

FWIW I agree with your part about how Bernier hasn't proven himself to be an undisputed #1.  But it's hard to separate what appear to be holes in his game with the gaping holes in the team's defense.

Matt O'Connor.  The goaltender for Boston College.  He's one of those college UFAs.

Unless there's a change behind the bench I think that's me probably done for this season. Same old, same old.

I'm so painfully close to this, unfortunately I love the team too much, I'd miss rotting for them every game.

I hate Randy Carlyle and I'm getting there with Nonis for allowing this crap show to continue.
It's almost 3am. I'm now into my early 30s. I've sporting commitments at 10am on a sunday. I've been willing for a long time to cope with the tiredness but this team just isn't worth it in its current guise.

Something has to give and I have no faith that the current incumbents in the front office or bench can make that happen. So precious sleep is winning out from here on in!

Can't blame you, Arn.  How you do it most every game is beyond me.

I missed the whole game so I just checked the score over at nhl.com and I saw 7-4 and my first thought was 'they gave up 4 goals to the flyers?' then I started reading the box score and began to laugh 'oh the leafs gave up 7!'

Ah this team.... Reminds me of that insane Latin girl I dated in high school. Some great moments peppered with illogical insanity.

They go up 2-0 and then try to sim to next day. I can't recall ever seeing a team quit in the first period when they have a lead until tonight.

This team makes no sense.

It's Buffalo and Nashville all over again. Very little, if anything, has changed.

Of course very little has changed. The main source of the problem is still employed. Anaheim had these same issues under Carlyle, and the Leafs weren't anywhere close to this bad without the puck under Wilson. While there are issues with the roster, the source of the problem is the coach and his pathetic system.

They didn't quit. The Flyers just woke up and the Leafs couldn't respond. They only looked good early because the Flyers hadn't started really playing yet.

Just got back from the ACC. First leaf game in person in ten years. - but my grandson had never gone, so I bought a couple tickets.

The good thing about watching in person, is that you can track a single player around the ice. The whole team was pretty lackluster, but Kessel in particular was just an absolute embarrassment. The whole section around me was just disgusted with his halfhearted "efforts" trying to gain possession.

End of the day, Giroux/Simmonds/Vorachek were miles ahead of our best line.

This is as much an indictment of Nonis and, to a lesser but still important extent, Shanahan as it is of the coach.

Part of me feels like Shanny knew there was a good chance this was going to happen, and was okay with it either way. To him, it either meant progress or a high draft pick and a pretty clean way to part with Carlyle and Nonis. Nonis, on the other hand, is the guy that stuck with Carlyle until making the decision was largely out of his hands.

Carlyle:
"Our execution level as a group was way down," Carlyle said. "I remember three or four opportunities to make a breakout pass and we put it in people's feet or iced the puck by leading them too much. It was like the execution of the simplest things was a challenge for us after 10 minutes."

Well, that being the case, better shore up for tonight's game against the 'Hawks.

Gutless and heartless team. The leafs really need to make changes to the core. Kessel is lacking in quite a few areas that you really want in your best player. Phaneuf isn't smart enough to be our captain. Most times it seems he just doesn't care. It's times to shake things up.

Carlyle's not wrong there. I remember one playing in the Leaf's zone. There were three players heading up the ice with Kessel at the boards. The defensemen passed it to Kessel who was stationary and had two Flyers converging on him rather than the other three who were already skating up ice.

Carlyle's bad, but that play is simply bad player judgement.
