Two deals I like for the teams that signed them are Stralman to Florida for 3/5.5 aav and Simmonds to NJ at 1 year/5m.

Both overpaid, but that's standard. Good on the teams to keep the term down.
A little high for both considering their injuries.

I think it's funny that Florida's tax rate advantage only comes up with elite players. Was Stralman looking for $6.5mil from teams with higher tax rates?

Anders Lee re-signs 7x7

And two 7s is two Ls upside down.

Lehner to Chicago for one year @ 5M

Islanders pick up Varlamov for 4 years instead

Is this an upgrade for the Isles or is the jury out?

Doesn't that strike anyone as strange? 2 years, same cash for the team you just played for, or 1 year with Chicago? Tells me he wasn't all that happy with something there.

Or else it's the timing maybe? What if he turned down the 2x5 thinking he could get more, Lou decides that he'll go out and get someone else and commits to Varlamov's camp, then Lehner has to take the best remaining offer or risk not playing.

Good point.

Well, it is the Islanders. He could have been one of the many guys frustrated by their Arena situation.

Or Lou's antiquated policies (hair, numbers, etc.)

True. Or he just may want to live in Chicago more than on Long Island. Either way choosing a 1 year deal over a 2 year deal isn't that much of a shock, especially for a guy who just had a pretty good year and may feel that by having another good year he can raise his stock even higher.

The Habs signed Ben Chiarot to a 3 year, 10.5 million dollar deal. So he's apparently a person who exists.

Hey fans, this was 2nd prize after pushing Carolina into a really tough corner with Aho at $8.5...3rd prize was a set of steak knives.
