Game 1: Leafs @ Bruins - Apr. 11th, 7:00pm - CBC, TSN 1050

I was trying to find a pic of Chara's dumb face when he got called for that penalty and couldn't but this is even better

Well, let's face it: the game-winning penalty shot deke-o-rama goal was e-ter-nal.

The Leafs came out looking polished and prepared. Good job by the coaching staff, nipping a lot of Boston?s attack in the bud with their game plan. Pastrnak and Marchand were largely stymied. Getting burned early on the PK seemed to get them to buckle down further.
I didn't like a few line decisions on a few faceoffs but credit is def due. Babs had them prepared well.

I think the junkyard dog has lost a few of its teeth. The Bruins didn't look intimidating at all in this game, and the Leafs certainly weren't bothered by them. Possibly the most zen I've felt during a playoff game in years. A great effort all around.

Muzzin floats a high shot on net and Marner tips it but it flutters into the far post: dang puck luck!
Puck bounds out behind Rask to the right dot to an open Marner! Woohoo puck luck!
Marner hammers it into the short post: gorram puck luck! >_<
The puck bounces of Rask/Chara into the net: I?ll never say anything bad about puck luck ever again ^___^

Okay fine, dominant hand on top is best.

Kapanen is not the best playmaking winger on the team, but let me just say what an excellent decision this was to go against the grain on the pass. Perfect positioning by Johnsson and Matthews to force Carlo into a no-win situation. I think if it was any other shooter, Johnsson might have tried to chip this up on the way to the net (what a highlight that?d have been), but you have to respect Matthews? shot (I think Matthews was trying for tip, otherwise he would?ve ripped it high). Rask makes this save by virtue of hope alone.

Obviously loved the game.

Key points for me:
Team discipline
Fantastic ice time distribution (Babs)
A great game by the 3rd line
A Nylander goal
Babcock was great
Zaitzev/Muzzin emergence
Reilly ice time

Cassidy commented on this before the game and it's something Mitch has been doing forever in a variety of ways.

At the beginning of the year, he add this L cut on entries, and what Marner does really well is timing his cut into the middle to coincide with the backchecking forward meeting the gapping up defenseman. This frees up a slip pass to a linemate coming into the zone with speed (hi, Rielly) while his running mate basically drags two other players to the net (Hyman).

STILL BASKING IN THE AFTER-GLOW of this game. What a victory. In Boston. Man, they played a near perfect game top to bottom, forwards getting back with active sticks, D-men passing and Mitchy! On cloud nine. On more thing that's different from last year: Mitch Marner: penalty killer.
