Game 16 - Toronto Maple Leafs @ St Louis Blues W3-2

I know the Leafs need to match the intensity, but man, that was a pretty ferocious forecheck Hitch had the Blues running tonight.  I think he'll be good for that team.

That won't last either - they still have that new coach smell.

Also, 4th GWG on the year for Kessel now?  Does the shootout winner count as a GWG?

Unfortunately, I don't think so. I had that thought as well.

Good to see that with Gus out of the net the Leafs were able to regain their confidence and really carry the play tonight.

I kid. Well needed win. Good to see Kessel keep it up.

Well, I guess Wilson picked the right goalie tonight. Why can't we get goaltending like that all the time?

so i guess we're back to scrivens is god?  because after the last few days of it being the sky is falling because the goaltending is crap ..we get a game where the team gets up 2 goals and says ..hey scrivens...win us the game...unbelievable ..like don't get me wrong ..i'm sure st louis had a lot to do with how bad toronto looked in the second and third ...but you have to be able to find your way out of your end once in a while ...i'm more than happy that the leafs got the win..but i'm not sure what their excuse for putting such a bad display on..it's not like they're tired

A win is a win.  Who cares sometimes you need an ugly one to get you on a roll. Hall of Fame game next lets hope the team plays some inspired hockey.

Kessel's taken 45 shootout attempts now.  Wow.  So many guys you see with 10-12 attempts.

This much is clear:  play Scrivens against any team with "blue" in their name.

or ..is it only let him play western opponents?  i hope it's that ..because i don't think he's going to get many starts otherwise

I think this game made it clear that our D problem is bigger than our G problem. On that tying goal there were three blues on the edge of the crease, unchallenged. That can't happen. You can't expect your goalie to keep going one on one or more point blank over and over again. After all the talk over the past week or so, goaltending won this game. :)

A miraculous 2 points but I'm smiling anyway!

The Leafs completely collapsed in their own end yet again, but luckily Scrivens was up to the task tonight.  Something drastic must be done about their defensive system, however.  Half the time they seem to have no idea what they ought to be doing without the puck.

On the plus side, they showed a decent offensive spark, which was a pleasant change after the past few games.  They're going to need the offense to keep rolling if they keep allowing opposing teams to have free reign in front of their net.

good to see you agree gus was a problem.  Scrivens had another good game.  As this is the first taste of the nhl, it is optimistic to expect it to last.

A definite difference with Scrivens in net.  This team seemed more confident and Scrivens did not disappoint.  Good goaltending work against a very determined Blues team.  Leafs and Scrivens held their own right down to Kessel's shootout winning goal and Scrivens' pad winning shootout save.
