Game 4 - Colorado Avalanche vs Toronto Maple Leafs OTL3-2

I haven't noticed frattin doing much in his 3 games.  When Kadri is healed I think we send frattin down and put kadri in his spot.

He's been pretty good when you watch him closely, in my opinion at least.  Competition for roster spots is a good problem to have, all good teams have it.

Agree we are going to need a big game from the Grabovski line and/or on the PP eventually.

I'm starting to wonder if Grabovski is playing hurt, with that shot off the foot in pre-season? He hasn't been playing bad, but maybe he is not 100%. Just something that crossed my mind.

I actually thought Grabovski was one of the best players in game 1.  I'm not worried about that line, and predict it will find the back of the net tonight.

Also looking forward to seeing Landeskog.

Anybody know who Grabovski has been playing against?  Maybe teams are keying on on that line feeling that they have the better chance of beating them.  Maybe the Kessel line hasn't had to play against the top defence pairing yet?

I was at the 7-1 drubbing of the Sens the other night.  I know it was one game, but the Avs looked relentless.  Lots of speed.

I agree with you, as I said, he hasn't played badly, it was just an observation I had. It was mostly games two and three, as you said, he played very well in game one. That could be adding to my point though, as he seemed to slow down a bit after game one.

I'm not worried either, I just hope that he is okay, as he is very important to our team. Let's hope this is all nothing and he has a big game tonight. Wilson and staff have been very quiet on injuries this year, so we may never know anyway.

A lot of ifs...

Leafs win if Giggy is in net for the Avs
Leafs win if Grabs line can take scoring pressure of Kessel's line
Leafs win if Optimus Reime has another good game
Leafs win if their PK is solid again
Leafs win if someone is willing to go to the front of the Avs net
Leafs win if they decide not to play pond hockey in their own end

It is hard to say who will win or lose because it is early in the season, but I want the Leafs to win.  As long as the Leafs play hard for 60 minutes, that is what is important.

I can't see Giguere being inspired to beat the Leafs, not that he's not inspired to win every game he starts, but he didn't really leave under any difficult situation and I don't think he holds any ill will towards the Leafs.  Some players after they leave come back and want to "show up" their old team for letting them go, but I doubt Giguere has any extra motivation for that, so hopefully he stinks the joint out tonight.  ;D

I know other former goalies have been more motivated to beat us in the past, but I figure it could still happen this time just to annoy us fans.  :P

I think we have a better chance with Giguere in nets than with Varlamov in. If anything, the current Leafs should know Giggy's weaknesses pretty well.

Like the splits?

I don't know about that stuff, but his glove hand is not as quick as it used to be.

Really ? What Kadri did in the pre season that deserves Frattin's spot ?

So far, Frattin is the better NHLer.

Tough to say re: Giguere and any sort of advantages. On the one hand, he was a pretty terrible goalie in his time here. On the other, he was such a phenomenal mentor to the younger players that they may be reluctant to score on their trusted mentor.

That's questionable. Frattin hasn't shown anything in his 4 NHL games that tells me he's clearly better than Kadri, based on what he's shown in his 30 games so far.

There are no friends on the other team between when there's time on the clock.

I don't know...Frattin looks a lot more complete.  I suppose we could discuss what means "better".

I have to agree. In 4 NHL GP plus the preseason, Frattin's showed and ability to throw the body, forecheck hard, make good passes, backcheck, deke around defencemen, and seems to have a hard shot. He narrowly missed scoring twice the other night. He already looks like the kind of player that even when he doesn't score really helps your team. Should he start scoring he could be a very good 2nd liner, if the flashes we've seen are for real and continue to develop. There appear to be few holes in his game.

Kadri's a different kind of player. While he's had some success (12 pts in 30 GP) on the offensive side, his holes seem to be playing two ways and turning the puck over/trying to be to fancy with the puck. Kadri if he learns these things could well be a 1st liner as he has higher offensive upside.

Frattin is the kind of guy that will prevent as many as he scores (well, once he scores  ;)), Kadri, at the moment, will be on the ice when scored against as many times as he'll bulge the twine. Or at least that's how I see it.

It was my feeble attempt at humour given that Giguere struggled with groin issues in the past.
